Forced to opt out of Working Time Directive?

A question about : Forced to opt out of Working Time Directive?

Hi there,

I'm due to take up a new job, and one of the forms I've been told to complete prior to starting employment is to opt out of the Working Time Directive and allow me to work over 48 hours a week.

Obviously I'm not being 'forced' to sign it in that I have a gun to my head, but it is either sign it or find another job, and I don't particularly like the idea of giving up this protection.

Is this common practice among companies these days?

Thanks for any answers

Is anyone good at STAR or willing to look over an application?

A question about : Is anyone good at STAR or willing to look over an application?

I'm finally looking at applying for a promotion - TSO to MB3 (Civil Service) title=Have

I won't be devastated if I don't get it, but I wouldn't mind this job - It's a promotion, very similar to a job I've done before, interesting, and I think I've got some really good examples. I think I'd enjoy it more and be better at it than the job I'm doing now.

Consultation Period

A question about : Consultation Period

Hi All,

I'd appreciate any guidance in relation to a change of terms at work and what procedures should be followed for an employee consultation.

In December of last year we received letters indicating that all staff in one part of the company were going to be subject to a consultation period in January regarding salary and overtime.

133 mile round trip to work and fuel cards, advice?

A question about : 133 mile round trip to work and fuel cards, advice?

Good evening everyone title=Smile

I work for a software company in Coventry, and I commute from Little Hereford in herefordshire (about 62.3 miles each way)

Its costing me around Ј100 per week to get to work and back, and with my salary around Ј18k its quite a big dent.

So I have devised a solution and I would like it if you could help me on making it a reality.

Internships: the minimum requirements dilemma?

A question about : Internships: the minimum requirements dilemma?

Hi guys, I'm currently in the process of applying for internships to add value to my application for whatever graduate scheme next year. The only issue is they all require a grade B in GCSE mathematics and I only obtained a C. This is due, in part, at least to the fact that my school was low-performing and was geared towards obtaining C grades for everyone because for most people 'C' was the highest they could hope to obtain. Although, I will admit that I didn't enjoy mathematics at that time.

CSCS Card

A question about : CSCS Card

My son completed a college course CSkills Awards Level 2 Diploma in Site Carpentry (Construction) (QCF) and passed the exam in June 2014. He has been working using his carpentry skills in a nightclub. Firstly building a new bar area and then maintenance.

He is hoping to get a job using and expanding on his carpentry skills. He did the CSCS test in summer 2014 but has just applied for a skilled persons CSCS card, as recommended by them.

Self Employment Sickness Cover

A question about : Self Employment Sickness Cover

Hi,

I am enquiring on behalf of my Dad who has recently become self employed. He has asked me to enquire is there any insurancw cover options or any support availible for sickness cover/sick pay. Obviously he is aware sick pay isn't as easy as an employer taking care of it he just wants to know what options are availible should he ever be off work due to illness.

Thanks
