A question about : Going to lose job through operation!

Hi

I'm in a "catch 22" situation with my job and having time off due to 2 operations. I've been with my employers for 26 months but in the last 11 months I've only work 4 weeks part-time due to a operation for a pilonidal sinus in my lower back in Nov 2003.

I was told by my doctor and the consultant that I would be back at work in 2 weeks but the sinus was far bigger than he thought!

A question about : is this true..?

I have a friend and she's currently not working etc...

But she's just had a letter from the IR - Asking about her funds etc..? and what she's been living off?

Now, will she have to pay tax? Even though she's not working?

My mum works as a cleaner but went to the doctor today and he told her that she has some kind of condition that means doing this job is not doing her any good he offered to sign her off on the sick. But my mum doesnt think that she can afford to go on the sick. What benefits are available to her if she does take this option?

There is an advert in my local paper for directory distributors for the yellow Pages, just for a few days.

Has anyone done this work before? Is it worth doing or not particularly rewarding? what pitfalls?

I graduated this year with a first in maths from warwick, but so far I have not been able to find a job. !Basically Ive started this thread hoping for help and support and answers to a few questions.

I signed on (JSA) at the end of July, presuming that it would only be for a very short time, but finding something at the right level has been impossible.

First off I am a 45 yr old electronics engineer in full time employment and have been in my current position for almost 20 years. I am trying now to find my wife a job, but I find that my approach to, and experience of 'the job market' is VERY out of date!

For sure: I myself would not like to be looking for a job and feel desperately for those that are. Job agencies are rubbish and 'job seekers' is a waste of tax payers money - just a bunch of box-tickers.

I tend to stick to other sections of the forum, so please let me know if this is posted often I have had a skim through old posts.

It seems everyone I know seems to have a method of getting extra income. Examples of people I know

- Car Mechanic (Buys broken cars, fixes them makes 50% profilt normally Ј400+ 2 a month

- Signwriting (buy a plotter + materials do 2 VANs a month @ Ј400+ per van)

- Cleaning (patio, bins and cars)
