Forced to work out notice with no work to do

A question about : Forced to work out notice with no work to do

Posting for a friend.

Only been in post a year and a half and had notice of redundancy. They are being required to work out 3 months notice, even though there is no work to do. This is because the team leader has no budget to pay people off but the organisation centrally can carry on paying people. (Makes no sense I know.) He is trying to negotiate on this and at the moment it is noted as a grievance.

Forced to leave at end of temp contract, JSA?

A question about : Forced to leave at end of temp contract, JSA?

I am working for a new employer on a probationary contract and do not expect to be kept on. If I am let go I will have 1 weeks notice.

I will need to claim JSA and housing while I look for another job, as I do not have any savings to pay the rent.

Redundancy payment / child benefit

A question about : Redundancy payment / child benefit

My husband is seriously considering VR, for a wide range of reasons. He will get a large sum of money, in the region of 60K.

I currently work part-time (0.5), earning Ј17K but would look to increase this until he gets a new job.

We currently don't qualify for Child Benefit due to his current salary, but if he was to take VR, would we immediately be able to qualify for CB or would his lump sum be taken into consideration?

SOSR Dismissal and final salary

A question about : SOSR Dismissal and final salary

Hello everyone,

My employer is due to let me go in the next few days for an SOSR. As it's not redundancy I have a three month notice period I will be taxed on.

What is the most tax-efficient way to receive this money? If it's paid as a lump sum wouldn't I be penalised by paying more tax up front? Would my actual tax would be less if I were to receive it as normal each month because of tax allowance and 20% and 40% tax bands?

I hope I'm making myself clear. Thank you in advance
