Pros and Cons of Pre-Paid Funeral Plans

A question about : Pros and Cons of Pre-Paid Funeral Plans

I cannot see an earlier thread on this topic, but if I have missed one then apologies in advance.

My parents, in their late 80s, are looking into these plans and I have no experience of the advantages and/or disadvantages of using them, so thought I would consult the collective wisdom of MSE, hoping to be able to tap into some actual experience.

Nearly At The Big 50

A question about : Nearly At The Big 50

title=EEK!
This year its my 50th Birthday.
I've been trawling this site and have done the relevant what I maybe entitled to forms etc. It seems not anything other than what I'm getting now.
So are there any Money Savings to be made when hitting the big 50. Or any hints and tips anyone may have that I haven't come across yet.

New phone for an oldie

A question about : New phone for an oldie

I've posted a longish thread over on the phones board but only had one reply so I wondered if any of you oldies could give me advice on the Samsung s3 mini phone and which PAYG taftff I ought to look at buying.

It's for hubby. He only uses it very occasionally, mostly to ring me. He never texts so it is mainly the cost of the phone to buy outright and the per minute cost of phone calls.

Great 'What discounts can I get now I'm over 60?' Hunt

A question about : Great 'What discounts can I get now I'm over 60?' Hunt

Around a fifth of the population are 60 years old or over, so it's no wonder some companies (plus the Government) offer extra discounts and incentives to tempt the group's custom and loyalty. So we'd like to tap MoneySavers' knowledge for where these discounts, savings and promotions can be had.

Examples include annual winter fuel payments between Ј125 and Ј400, the Freedom TFL travel pass if you live in a London borough and 10% off Boots brand products if you join its free health club.

National Insurance query

A question about : National Insurance query

I have 40 years National Insurance contributions. I plan to retire from my current job on 01/01/2016 at the age of 63. I shall then take my occupational pension. I am male - despite my username. My state pension age is 65.
I plan to take alternative part-time work between the age of 63 and 65.
Do I pay National Insurance contributions during this period? And, if so, at what rate and at what threshold?

thank you

Put dads house in trust?

A question about : Put dads house in trust?

Hi - looking for some advice please!

My dad is 75, he lives in sheltered accommodation which he pays rent on, as he has a property that he rents out which pays his existing rent on his flat essentially.

I am registered as a lasting power of attorney for his financial affairs should he lose mental capacity - at this time he retains capacity although has short term memory issues and accesses a LA funded day centre 3 days a week.
