A question about : Is there such a thing as a free lunch...

I'm currently interviewing with a company which offers a free lunch up to the value of Ј11 per day. Do I have to pay tax on this?

Given that I normally just eat a bit of fruit and I'm a higher rate tax payer, I'm wondering if I'll end up being worse off (albeit with a fuller stomach).

A question about : carer and student visa

My sisters are looking for someone to hwlp with Mum's care in exchange for accomodation and a Ј30.00 per day for cooking her meals However the lady who has applied is on a student visa from phillipines and it runs out in June. She has been here 3 years and worked for 2 years in a care home and the last year as a student. Is it easy to sponsor her to stay??

A question about : Advice needed, re: Sunday working

Hi all, I currently work in a supermarket as an in-store baker so as far as I can tell, I have the right to opt out of working on Sundays.

Now, as far as my actual contract goes, I work Tuesday - Saturday, no mention of Sunday working. But where I work, there are only 4 of us, so we generally switch our days off, meaning I do occasionally work a Sunday.

A question about : Minimum hours of a shift in England

As the title says, what is the minimum hours an employee can give someone? I work in retail in England.

A question about : Friend

My friend works in a supermarket.

A couple of weeks ago, they turned the self scans by 90 degrees and could get two more in.

Problem is now the lights run parrallel to the self scans. The lights bounce off the screens making the whole self scan area too bright. My friend suffers from an eye condition makes bright light too glarey and gives her bad headaches.

Her checkout supervisers and manager are not bothered with my friend's health and say everyone needs to share the self scan duties.

A question about : Retracting acceptance

Hi,

I recently received a job offer from a company, and accepted. They sent me an offer, and asked me to sign it to confirm my acceptance and send it back to them. The offer letter states that a standard contract of employment will be issued after 3 months, subject to a performance review. I signed the acceptance letter and returned it to them.

My current employer, on learning of my notice being handed in, made a counter-offer, which is far better.

I would appreciate your advice on this . I have been with the same job for over 11 years and left a few months ago to start a new job.
I am on a 6 month probation period and do not get sick pay during this period .Unfortunately I was off sick yesterday. Does anyone know if I am entitle to SSP for one day and how much will it be ?
