Auto Enrolment

A question about : Auto Enrolment

I keep seeing auto enrolment described as free money for an employee.

Employers are obliged to participate when their staging date comes round. They must contribute their % share towards the employees pension.

They have additional admin costs themselves relating to this AND must pay a pension company to administer the scheme as well.

list of books to understand investment and pension

A question about : list of books to understand investment and pension

Does anyone know about any book that is practical in its approach in explaining how to invest and investment strategies, including pension? My financial adviser recommended one newly released on amazon called 'Saving and Investment Wisdom: How to take charge of your finances' by David Opoku, an experienced stockbroker and Financial planner. I got one and read it cover to cover (100 pages). It's really good and enlightening, but I would like to do further reading if you know other books please.

Quick pension question

A question about : Quick pension question

Hi,

With regards to the auto enrolment pension scheme, from October 2018 the employer contribution must be 3%, and the overall contribution must be 8%. My question is, if I ask my employer to cover the whole 8% contribution, does this count towards my taxable income as well?

AE Employer Contributions & SIPP's

A question about : AE Employer Contributions & SIPP's

I am hoping we have a pension expert who can give me a pointer regarding AE and SIPP's.

As I understand, if a member of staff wishes to opt out of auto-enrolment, they lose entitlement to employer contributions. The major providers of SIPPs, BestInvest, HL and so on, do not seem to offer a SIPP for individuals which are compliant with AE.

I retired from my NHS post in August, taking my lump sum, pension Ј16,910 per year. I obtained another job in NHS salary Ј27.000 for 18 months taking me to state pension age. I'm not sure if I will retire full time at that point. I have received a booklet telling me I have been auto enrolled in NEST
