A question about : Got a job!

Been out of work for the first time in 8 years since December and have been offered a job this week, in the same field, student services!

Probably my best interview, even though the pressure was obviously under, I have 3 kids and a large mortgage and partner only works P/T

Just wanted to advise people who are in the same position - to stay positive, apply for jobs you are seriously interested in. I hated going to weekly sign ins at the job centre but I had a supportive Job Coach. Keys are stay positive, exercise, don't over search and be realistic and hopefully things will end in a positive!

All the best, I found some comfort in threads on here and realised it's not only me who is out of work!

Best answers:

  • well done. I have a job offer to pending my occupational health now the others are complete. I shouldn't imagine a problem with that as they already have a record of me.
It is demoralising when you know the path you need to take but the advisors are suggesting the jobs that are not suited to you. Also my advisor reads the job adverts word for word even though im capable of reading it lol.
Have you been given a start date. People advise not to tell the advisor but I did as he was gonna make me to go to a jobs fair and I said to be honest with you I have a job offer just waiting on checks. Obviously im continuing to apply for roles and manged to get interviews on my own.
im shocked how quick I got one as I have no expeeirence in admin but transferable skills but ive had about 5 interviews and only took 6 months from me properly searching for a job as I was moving sectors due to health reasons.
  • Wow! Things are looking great for both of you!
Congratulations and well done, you must both have been so worried for some time.
  • I have been as its been a 2 year process to get where I am now. I work part time and only began topping up my wages with jsa six months ago an wished I did it earlier as I owe student bursary money and the jsa money has come in great help for this easing my worries.
  • I guess I'm lucky. My advisor hasn't saved a single job to my UJM account since I started signing-on.
Got an interview tomorrow and another next Wednesday.
As I will be passing my last employer's place on the way home from tomorrow's interview, i will be calling-in for a catch-up (and to see if the workload has increased enough to be able to re-employ me).
Anyway, well done DEcML. Hope the new job works-out well for you and lasts a long time.
