Natiowide

A question about : Natiowide

Hi Everyone,

I need some advise, I haver been saving with Nationwide with a Save to buy account and now have a 10% deposit for a house.
The property is 142k so I need a mortgage of about 128,000 which according to a mortgage calculator I can afford.

I spoke to Nationwide who ran through the checks to see if they could give me a mortgage in Principal, the computer said no!

Tax on a gift for mortgage deposit

A question about : Tax on a gift for mortgage deposit

Hi,

I am looking at purchasing a house with the help of a 'gift' from my parents. The amount is Ј12,000 but wanted to know if there is any tax implications of receiving a gift of this amount from my parents.

Thanks

Best answers:

  • There is not.
  • well
if both parents gave 3,000 for this year and carried over 3,000 from last year then 12,000 could be given completely free of IHT concerns about dying within 7 years

Help with letter to landlord re rent increase

A question about : Help with letter to landlord re rent increase

Hi All,

Had a letter from landlord to increase rent by Ј50 (required notice given) I think that we should write a letter to see if we can pursued him not to. Good tenants, always pay in time and in full, place kept in good condition, no complaints. The reason LL gave us is the market value of the whole building (not our flat), but we asked our neighbours and they did not receive any letter at all. We have a rolling contract and we live there for 1.5 year. Any advice?

Renting help! (DSS)

A question about : Renting help! (DSS)

Hi,

I'm trying to find somewhere within the Berkshire area that would accept DSS/HB.

My girlfriend and I are in a very difficult situation, where we have no choice but to move out (due to recent family & home issues). We both have jobs and my partner is a full-time degree student, however our income is relatively low and we don't earn enough to afford rent/mortgage at the moment.

Calculations show we can get help with rent, however finding somewhere that would accept us is proving incredibly difficult!

First Time Buying

A question about : First Time Buying

Hi all,

First post here, so here goes.

For the past 6 months, I have been renting a house with some friends after deciding that at 24 years old I needed to get out of my parents' house. The current agreement is almost on a stay as long as you want basis, the current landlord is very laid back about the situation at the moment, and I don't have any long-term contracts tieing me down. However, this isn't going to last forever, and I think I need to think about my future.
