A question about : Electric Central Heating i.e Thermaflow v Amtec

Would love some technical and anecdotal advice regarding running (particularly costs) a wet central heating system with an electric boiler. We have been extensively researching the most cost effective (to run) system, to heat our renovated, small 3 bed (semi) cottage.
Oil and mains gas not possible, nor any of the modern heating systems i.e heat/air pumps ,solar systems etc.

Hi, I have a problem. I changed supplier from n power to ovo in december 2014.i informed n power and they proceeded to issue me with a bill for Ј118.00. How can I get a bill when I pay as I go and to my knowledge have no outstanding debt due to them. Advices please.

A question about : Log Biomass Boiler System

Hi

There are several threads on here regarding Pellet Biomass systems but nothing much about Log Biomass. So, have any of you installed such a system? If so, can you give me a rough idea on your system size, amount of logs used, approx cost of installation etc? I have ball park prices for a boiler, thermal store and controls etc but wanted to get a feel for likely install/labour costs. Now the RHI is here I expect that it is a licence to print money!

Any reliability/performance issues? Good support from your supplier?

I am with Scottish Power on a Fixed Rate until Dec. 15 and as energy prices are falling I decided to do a comparison.

I went onto Gocompare and entered my actual readings for gas and elec off a bill with dates of the bill - starting and ending, and the quotes came back staggered me ! All the quotes stated my usage was projected from the bill I had supplied of Ј535 pa. My actual bills work out to over Ј900 !

A question about : Solid fuel central heating advice needed

We live in a three bedroomed, pre-Victorian cottage with a Parkray room heater that feeds the central heating system. It is currently costing us upwards of Ј6 a day on smokeless fuel to hear our house!!! What are we doing wrong? I am writing this from my bed with the electric blanket on to save on the fuel!

Our boiler broke, so I called an engineer who attended within an hour, which was excellent. All fixed 3 days later, but just wanted to check on prices as he is coming back to service it and I need to make sure I haven't been a mug!

All in all, 3 hours labour at Ј75,nozzle Ј15 and second hand burner at Ј130.

Before your self insure, it's worth knowing that if your boiler breaks down on the first cold day of winter, you'll be in a long queue to get a plumber as British Gas and all the other firms that offer insurance always deal with the customers that are insured with them as the top priority, with everyone else being shuffled to the bottom of the queue.
