Contract Work Pay (PAYE/Umbrella/PLC)

A question about : Contract Work Pay (PAYE/Umbrella/PLC)

Hi all,

I'm soon going to be making the jump from working as a permanent Health IT professional to the scary world of contracting.

Now, at the moment, I'm just going to be working and paying tax using PAYE. However, I've also been told the other options (which may be better) are to set myself up as a company, or work with/under an umbrella company.

Can anyone please explain to me like I'm a complete moron what these options are/how they work/the pros and cons of either?

Great Grants Hunt

This discussion has been updated with the full

Grant Grabbing Guide: List of all major UK grants for energy, homes, work, education and more.

Thousands of pounds worth of grants go unclaimed each year and they're available for all sorts of wierd and wonderful projects - from energy savings to studying. I'd like to tap MoneySavers' collective knowledge to find the best ones.

What else can you find a grant for and what's the best way to get it?

May I pick your brains?

A question about : May I pick your brains?

Just a quick question and this genuinely is for a friend. She asked me but although I think it might be unreasonable I wasn't sure if she could do anything about it.

Friend lives a 30 minute drive from work and has a small child. Now being asked to come in for a regular staff meeting at 8 in the morning. This is difficult as childminder doesn't generally accept children before she'd have to leave. Plus she is concerned about an even earlier start and workload issues.

Hello everyone,

I found this website very useful whilst I was researching for certain questions asked for Christmas temp position at Boots. I have been successful at interview and been offered the job, therefore I would like to share my experience!

I first of all got to know the layout of the store beforehand a week before just to know the whereabouts of things and also looked at my chosen product 2 in 1 shampoo and conditioner and any offers this may have e.g: 3 for 2, etc...

Tutor...

A question about : Tutor...

I'm a maths teacher of 10 years who is slowly thinking about a change in career, but I have no real experience in anything else. I am thinking about tutoring to start with, but would that be enough to sustain me?

If not, I need suggestions....what ideas would you suggest?
