Bank freebies for oldies?

A question about : Bank freebies for oldies?

I'm going back to college in Sept so have been scouting around for good student bank accounts. Thing is, I've found that of the ones I've looked at (eg NatWest) their t&c state the freebie's only for students entering HE for the first time.
I guess I could lie, but might they find out I've been to college before?
Hmm... :-/

Ј35k student debt

A question about : Ј35k student debt

Hi people,

I am Ј35,000 in debt from my studies.

Ј10,000 is from a student loan, Ј25,000 is from a HSBC professional studies loan (interest is about 1% above base rate)

With all things going to plan, I should be starting work this September.

What I would like to know is, are there any ways I can pay this loan off any quicker?

Hi there, I am a 33 student starting a 3 year course in Sept 04. We claim some tax credit, but to claim some more to help towards permanent child care , I am working the 16 hours required by our government. My wife works fulltime and earns just above the threshold. My student loan will go on course fees etc. Does any else know off any else I may be able to claim for or apply to for some help.

Best way to go around getting finance for a laptop

A question about : Best way to go around getting finance for a laptop

My first thought was a credit card 0% interest on purchases, but realised that in order to apply you often need to have an income of over Ј10k a year. Having applied for a Barclay card but i think that the 0% on purchases is only for 3 months and this would not be a sufficent time to pay this back.

So was wondering maybe a loan maybe the way to go, but not sure on which are the best for this, as i would need a low rate on borrowing for about 5-6 months. As i get my student load around then.

Guaranteed money saving for students

A question about : Guaranteed money saving for students

Hi everyone!

It's not easy being a "typical" student where the ends don't meet with your finances. Overhearing many students saying that they don't have enough cash and being skint really makes me think about how they manage their finances.

Having a wide circle of friends and asking all of them what they spend most of their loan or income on apart from rent. Most of them said, as I have guessed it on Booze!!!!!! :-*

council tax

A question about : council tax

Do students on a sandwich course work placement pay council tax

Best answers:

  • nope, not at all. you should consult your uni about it, but basically you still get that same council tax exemption form (of course, this is assuming that you are living with a house full of students - if not, ask the council, I think you get 25% off or something)
    Quote:
  • Dont forget to obtain a certificate of exemption from the uni offices!
    that's what I always do!

ridiculous council tax payment

A question about : ridiculous council tax payment

I was a student up in aberdeen and lived in a rented flat with 4 other students. We were therfore exempt. apparently according to the council my course finished in june (even though I graduated in July). They claim I have to pay hundreds of pounds because I wasn't a student from june until september (the end of my flat lease). I didnt even stay there I handed my keys in on the day of graduation in july.
