A question about : Best way to go around getting finance for a laptop

My first thought was a credit card 0% interest on purchases, but realised that in order to apply you often need to have an income of over Ј10k a year. Having applied for a Barclay card but i think that the 0% on purchases is only for 3 months and this would not be a sufficent time to pay this back.

So was wondering maybe a loan maybe the way to go, but not sure on which are the best for this, as i would need a low rate on borrowing for about 5-6 months. As i get my student load around then.

Just so you know i get around Ј4500 student loan a year and earn just over Ј3,000 doing part time work.

If anyone has any ideas on the best way to go about this, and where is best to get it from it would be of great help!

Current best price i found is Ј1600 for Apple powerbook g4 1.5ghz 15"

Thanks for reading!

  • Probably the best way to finance this would be to use an overdraft on a student account. It may be possible to get 2 if you need one for day to day stuff. :-X

Consider getting a refurbished laptop from the apple refurb site.

They are often in brand new condition so you wouldn't know its a refurb anyway!
Personally myself I wouldn't spend over Ј1200 on a laptop since that extra Ј400 isn't buying you much more for the money. Don't buy a laptop with lots of extra features which might be nice to have - buy what you need.
  • what my mate at uni did was get his laptop from pcworld as they did 6 months interest free so he is paying it all off in the 6th month and no interest, may be worth looking out for deals like this in retail shops such as pcworld
  • Well, great idea but get on to this real story.
My mate ordered 1 laptop from Dixons, waited for a while for them to get stock. after 2 weeks of waiting, 2 came by mistake, but she only got charged for 1!!!!!
Still, the dumb asses at Dixons haven't even noticed!
Now thats more than money saving!
  • SWEET!
  • heh thats cool, dont see how a company manage that though :
i mean, its not like its easy to get confused, 1 laptop, 2 laptops, how many people order 2 anyway, silly people
