A question about : storage heater/economy 7 queries

This may sound like a stupid question but how do storage heaters know to come on at night time?

Do they have an internal timer? Does the change in electric supply for normal to ecomomy 7 trigger them?

I have storage heaters and i find them to be quite expensive (electricity bill is Ј50-60/m in winter in a one bed flat with just me as opposed to Ј15-20/m in summer) so i was wondering if possibly they are coming on at the wrong time?

A property I may be interested in has oil fired central heating. I asked the estate agent some questions and was told the boiler is 7 to 8 yrs old, is a Camroy 2 and the current owners have had two oil deliveries in the past year costing approx Ј160 each. The EA forgot to ask about quantities, but I guess this has to be 2 x 500 litre deliveries

Firstly, I apologize if this question has been asked before but I do not know anybody where I can ask for advice.

I have a ravenheat combi boiler and has broken down early this year. I have asked for an engineer to check this out before and had cost me around Ј60 just to check what was wrong with it and told me that valves needed to be replaced. It would cost around Ј400 so he said that it would be better just to replace the boiler.

I had a new boiler installed by a large utility company a few months back. I experienced a catologue of problems prior to installation, including a weekend with no heating and many hours on the phone to call centres.

I have subsequently put in a complaint to the company in question and been offered a 10% discount on the boiler and installation costs.

A question about : oil getting WAY too expensive

Ive just had my oil tank filled (1300 litres) and its cost me Ј436.17 including VAT. The price of oil is getting ridiculous. Has anyone got any ideas on how to cut down my fuel consumption as to heat our old drafty house it is costing us over 17% of our total income on electricity, oil and coal (we need the coal fires as the heating alone is often not warm enough to heat the place) I cant afford to heat the house if oil prices keep going up like this.
