Basic rights at work & Redundancy

A question about : ESA affected by PILON?

I am on extended sick leave and as my employers stopped paying me in June, I am claiming ESA at Ј72pw.
Meantime I have been invited to apply for VR which I have done and been accepted, and part of the settlement includes a payment for three months notice(Payment in Lieu of Notice),
So do I advise authorities and my ESA is stopped for this period or what happens? I consider it unlikely that I will be fit for work again in that period.

Last year I was working for a company who I won't name, and after about 3 months they stopped paying me, claiming that 'funding had dried up'. I was constantly promised that the payment was coming this week, then the next for several months until I finally managed to find a new job and walked away from the company.

A question about : work expect me to pay repair bill for damaged van

I damaged my work van during work. It was a silly accident while exiting a parking space and resulted in damage only to the work van. It looks like it may cost Ј200-Ј300 and they are saying I should pay for the repairs as it was my fault. Their insurance excess is Ј1000 to save them money and they expect employees to contribute to repairs below that value.

Hopefully a quick question:

Does time served as an apprentice count for employment rights?

2 situations

1. When moving onto a perminant contract does time served as an apprentice count with no break in service towards the 2 years of employment rights?

2. When moving onto a fixed terms contract does time as an apprentice count towards the rights you have at the time of renewal?

A question about : Start New Job

A friend of mine left his old job of 10 years to take up a new position and just 3 weeks later he has been made redundant.

The redundancies aren't part of a redundancy program, it is just him who has been let go.

The role he was filling was a new one at the company and after assessing the position he took they have told him that they've realised they just don't have enough work for him to do to justify a full time position.

Can they do this or is he entitled to make any sort of claim against them?

A question about : Husband made redundant or sacked

My husband has been told he has 1 month left at work it wasnt going well but we are still waiting on whether he is going to be officially sacked or made redundant.
He was a high wage earner Ј42000, the situation now will be i work 17 hrs a week and earn approx Ј7300 per year. We are in private rent of Ј775 per month and can see from the housing benefit site i will only get maximum Ј150 per week housing benefit.
