A question about : how to pay less tax on a buy to let

Switching to a buy to let (interest only)and don't know which option is better -

A) pay of lump sum to bring down monthly payments

B) pay monthly over payments with profit through rent

I'm unemployed and my partner is full time 32K+ salary, were not sure which option is best - will we have to pay tax on profit before over payments?

I really like reading this forum and i'm impressed with how many people are kicking their mortgage into shape.

I just wondered with mortgage rates so low at the moment, why you are choosing to lower your mortgage instead of putting the money elsewhere.. for example, a stocks and shares ISA or Santandars 123, or an investment portfolio of somekind.

Just some friendly advice required.
OH and I and Baby FLC are in this current situation:

Mortgage: Ј101,000 - 2.59% interest fixed for two more years
ISA: Ј7,000 1.49% tax free
TSB 5% interest account: Ј1,000

We are currently planning to add a brother or a sister for baby FLC.

My job is uncertain though - likelihood is a choice to take Ј180 per month pay cut - with a lump some of around Ј5500 (two years of pay difference)
Or redundancy.

A question about : Making overpayments but the balance aint going down

Dear forum members

Like anumber of other people on here, I too am desperate to pay my mortgage off. However I have noticed that my overpayments don't seem to be brining the mortgage balance down by the corresponding amount each month (so you help in understanding this is much appreciated).

Keeping it simple, my monthly mortgage payment is Ј400 which I pay, however I also overpay Ј1,100

Took out a self cert intrest only mortgage in mid 2007 of just over Ј200k, fixed at 5.4 % for 5 years. Looking back it wasn't the best financial decision i ever made.

We've been obsessed with making overpayents since day one, and have tried to live frugally

Hi, all

Does anyone know if monthly regional HPI figures are available anywhere? I can see quarterly ones but not monthly- do these exist?
