A question about : yucky fridge! help

I have a fridge which is about 10 yrs old. at the back inside there is a small drainage hole. it is blocked with a clearish jelly like substance and there are grey streaks on the back wall leading to it. can I clear this? I've unplugged it and poked around with a knitting needle but although i can feel and see the goo It doesnt come out. is it dangerous? shades of Aggie how clean is my house wit h the awful harmful bacteria is in the back of my mind.

Best answers:

  • I would probably try pouring some boiling water into the hole and see if that cleans it - I have done this when mine was blocked and my fridge is still going strong
  • Pipecleaners are great for clearing the holes at the back of the fridge, especially the thick ones.
  • Could you make a solution of soda crystals and dribble that down to clear it?
  • Didn't you get a little plastic tool that came with the fridge? If you have kept your instructions, might be there in the bag.
Failing that, and if you don't have pipe cleaners handy, what about cotton buds? You might need a few.
