A question about : Working Tax Credits and Child Tax Credits

Hi. Can you advise on the following: 2 years ago my husband was out of work and we received 2 tax credits. This was our only income along with my part time job of around Ј500 a month. We had mortgage insurance, so didn't need help with the mortgage. However, last year they sent us a letter telling us we had to pay all the benefits back, as my husband's salary from December to March was high. It's a lot of money and we are paying it back over 3 years. So the money they gave us to live on and keep afloat we have to pay back.
