A question about : Windsave

https://www.windsave.com/WS1000.htm

Antone got one of these? If so have you seen a drop in usege from the mains?

Best answers:

  • It is something I had been considering and I posted elswhere about it. Paul_h and Cardew are real experts on this and have looked at all the costings.
Go to the "solar panels" thread a bit further down this page and click on page 2 (I dont know how to put a direct link in!) The solar debate shifts onto wind and the guys mentioned above break down all the likely savings over outlay.
  • It seems though that the price of this generator kit at Ј1500 is a lot less than the ones they were discussing so this is more likely to give you your money back during its lifetime. I'm sure the ones they were discussing were about 4 to 5k and producing about 3Kw.
  • You have to be actually consuming the electricity when it's windy.
Doesn't look like you can "bill back" the national grid - or store in batteries.
Be interesting to see how long it takes to recoup the investment. ( assuming a couple both out working all day ).
  • These were talked about on radio 4 and a guy was saying you get Ј500 grant as well!
As far as I was aware they were ready to go by what he was saying?
  • Cardew have been and read thread again (while I am not saying I believe they can deliver at this price they give a price of Ј1500 with 5% vat Installed! ) and your figures for installed are:
Secondly. The unit currently costs Ј3,500 unfitted. The firm fitting them estimate the average installation charge on a conventional house to be Ј1,700. Now whilst the cost of the turbine might reduce with large scale production I suspect the labour intensive installation fee might not. I doubt therefore if your estimate of Ј2,000 will ever become a reality.
or am I still looking in the wrong place?
    ;
Also they do state at the bottom of the page
The system does 'back feed spillage' into the grid whenever there is excess electricity not being consumed by the customer. In accordance with the Engineering recommendation G83/1 the system 'fails safe' and switches off immediately if ever there is a power cut, or if the quality of mains supply, or the generator supply, fall out with the quality standard requirements. The system does not (at this time) serve to supply to a stand alone electrical installed unit.
I must say it does seem an awful lot for the money to me - a full system that back feeds as well for Ј1500 plus 5% vat(also 1 ROC) but thats what they say. Time will tell if they can deliver
  • Listen to the info again.
    Here
Its towards the end of the programe.
    https://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/science/...theearth.shtml
  • Yeah I heard that broadcast whne it aired - on listening again they claim an installed cost of Ј1000 after grant and a payback within 5 years on average production.
  • My work are looking at something similar (I think that the Tesco In Diss has somethign like this already installed).
  • I've found the write place in the thread now Cardew and it does look like your sums are right - one would hope for the governemnt to give more help to make this feasable.
