A question about : what does your dog eat?

Hi everyone just wondering what you all feed your dogs? I have a cavalier and yes on lily's kitchen and its costing a bomb I am just wondering if there are any better options I have slashed our food bill now I need to slash his but still have him on a good healthy diet.

Best answers:

  • My dog is currently on Skinners. I heard good things about this food, emailed the company and they sent me some free trial size packs within days. It's not too expensive either to buy and my dog really enjoys it
  • My boy is very happy on Skinners Duck and Rice Hypoallergenic.
He wasn't too happy with the Chicken and Rice he had before.
Before that I fed him Burns and Arden Grange.
I bought him a small bag of Lilys Kitchen to give him as treats - thank goodness I didn't buy it as food as he isn't that fussed!
    It is incredibly expensive!
I get the Skinners from medicanimal.
  • My cocker spaniel is fed wainwrights lamb, she is very happy on it
  • Burns chicken and brown rice for my boys. Mainly as one has allergies and it works well for him. Not cheap though, but he ho.
  • Another two being fed Skinners here - we use the Salmon and Rice version due to one of mine having a chicken intolerance and the other having a history of Pancreatitis. My girl also has Wainwrights low fat turkey and rice wet trays with the Skinners to reduce the overall fat content of her meals.
Ive recently found Fetch, the pet supplies side of Ocado, to be the best priced for the Skinners.

  • James wellbeloved Turkey and rice and a fair few other things, some meat, poultry and veg leftovers.
  • Skinners Maintenance.
  • Dry food - currently Harringtons at that was what he had when I got him, but have been happy with Skinners in the past.
Topped up with yellow sticker veg/salad/meat/chicken wings and whatever scraps are left over when I'm cooking, for example if I'm peeling carrots, he gets the peelings. And he does enjoy his morning porridge. He's easily pleased.
  • there's some good info here
    https://www.petforums.co.uk/dog-healt...ood-index.html
    and here

you could also look into raw
  • Fussy poodle has a mix of dry and wet wainwrights puppy (have to keep changing flavour to get her to eat!)
Wagg sensitive lamb treats are a favourite, but ham, chicken, cheese are also considered preferable to that 'dried muck you keep putting in my bowl'
We do leave the bowl down as she's the only dog and is still on the slim side. She's developed a penchant for midnight snacking!
She's on or about 5kg at the moment, but is cheap to actually feed as she doesn't bloody eat it.
  • My 3 yr old trailie has half Skinners duck & rice + half adult Autarky salmon + rice
My 7 yr old trailie has senior Autarky salmon & rice
He is wheat intolerant and loses weight easily, she is inclined to put on too much weight.
He gets cold boiled potatoes (which he loves!) They both have allsorts of raw fruit & veg daily equivalent to at least one apple each. The only thing they really don't like is celery! Grated carrot is a favourite
I get Autarky from Berriewood but Skinners comes out cheapest from small local pet shop rather than online
  • Raw (also known as BARF). A mix of raw meat, bones, offal with various extras.
  • Raw fed here too
Worth looking on www.allaboutdogfood.co.uk for options
  • Raw here, too. We buy the 1kg tubs of Natural Instinct and add grated vegetables to it to make it go a bit further, then freeze it in tubs. A Ј2.80 tub makes about 4/5 weeks' worth of food.
When we were on kibble, we tried Skinners, Autarky, Orijin, Barking Heads, and Markus Muhle all of which were fine. The hound has pancreatitis, so we're very careful with what we feed her.
  • We raw feed too. I don't have a lot of faith in commercial dog food and would be wary of food that looks cheap. Lilys Kitchen is good quality from my knowledge of it.
  • Zoo plus do some great grain free foods about half the price of lillies.
Some will say animal derivatives but they're German foods and laws are different there so they mean offal which is perfectly fine. And they're always happy to give exact break downs when you email and enquire.
Lukullus is good. I've fed that before.
    I feed raw now.
  • Raw food from Nutriment
  • Currently on Simpsons salmon and potato grain free with a spoon of wainrights wet
Trying samples at the minute. He won't touch skinners, autarky, fish 4 dogs. Fav so far is burns! All flavours lol, waiting for sample of simpsons 80/20
