A question about : What combination of cooking appliances?

If you could have your choice of a combination of cooking appliances what would you pick?

We're planning a new kitchen and this is one of the many things that I'm trying to work out.

I had initially thought about a built in double oven with a built in microwave in a tall tower unit.

We've had a kitchen design session with one of the main DIY stores and they suggested something different and said that double ovens are less popular these days. They suggested a single oven with a separate combination oven/grill/microwave instead. I'm trying to work out if this really is a better option or simply a solution to the fact that they don't appear to have a housing unit suitable for a double oven and microwave.

So I thought I'd see what other people would pick if they had the choice.

Thanks

  • Possibly not your style but how about a range stove with induction hob.
Not sure I would have a built in microwave they don't tend to last very long.
  • Thanks for your reply.
I'm not keen on range cookers - although my Husband would love one lol.
Interesting to note your comment regarding the microwave. I'm quite keen on having all appliances built in so I'll make sure quality and warranties is a factor when I look at microwaves (or an appliance that has a microwave function).
  • We discussed something similar with our kitchen fitter.
The double oven is useful, fashionable or not. Putting a microwave above or below one will mean that something is either too high to reach into properly / safely (think hot liquids) or too low to see into well, defeating the object of putting the over in a tower unit.
In the end the microwave was left standalone and occupies a corner that is rather awkward to use otherwise.
  • Fifteen years ago I opted for a double range oven - I've never used both ovens at the same time! In that time I have had 4 microwaves - all at different price levels. So I would always have a stand alone. On thing I would add is make sure you have plenty of freezer space - specially if you like batch cooking and food bargain hunting.
