A question about : Weezl and friends Phase 3

Hello!

A new thread is required title=Smile

We have a new launch and some brave new testers.

A summary of the story so far, a few pals on MSE old style wanted to create a resource for those who are struggling with debts too big for them.

We knew that often one of the bits of advice on DFW is to drastically cut your food budget.

But most of us understandably don't know where to start, and more importantly don't want to damage our health or our family's health, so we decided to put together an internet resource with meal planners shopping lists and recipes to help you do just that.

Interested?

Do please read on...

  • Yay new thread!!!!

  • Kitty is now live !!!!
Cheap Family Recipes Option Two in all its beauty
A big welcome to all - this thread is dedicated to the testing of the new frugal meal planner on the CFR website.
Weezl's Phase 1 was the gestation period of the marvelous Weezl's concept.
Weezl's Phase 2 was dedicated to the in-depth testing of the "Shirl's" Option 1 planner ( a bunch of us lived it for a month to see if it's workable), this thread, Weezl's Phase 3, is dedicated to the testing of the "Kitty's" Option 2 - a planner that is suitable for vegetarians and vegans and meets the non-negotiable of having a piece of fresh fruit every day.
Artybear, bigjenny and yours truly are on boar to do the testing, with a few others who will try an odd recipe here and there - but we are hoping that a lot more people will join in with the challenge, especially those who liked the concept but were unable to test Option 1 because they do not eat meat.
All the relevant information for the testers can be found by clicking on the top link above, but further separate links to essential info are to follow.
Of course, as ever, if the thread was just testing alone, it'd soon go deadly dull (even with my kitchen misadventures), so chat, edits, and anything and everything can now move on here - and a lot of cheering us on, I hope
Some shortcuts to the parts of the site that you will need for testing:
    Weekly shopping lists
    And some backup info:
    Batch cooking, rough draft
We are now also testing Christmas Recipes - please click here to see the planner !
  • I'm looking forward to this ! My start date is 09/08, to run for 31 days and end 08/09. I am cooking for two at the moment, but DD will be back about halfway through the test period.
The way I'll do it is about 80% on plan, 20% off - all the breakfasts, lunches and snacks will be plan - the 15 separate dinner dishes will be day on/day off (Kitty's vegan meal one night, something meatier to keep us happy the next). I will also utilise all the free stuff I have growing in the garden - so I might bung in an illicit herb or two if I have tested a dish in its "as published" state already - and if a meal calls for, say, carrots and peas to be served on the side, I might serve runner beans and courgette instead, so they don't go to waste and I save even more money
  • Hi guys
My plan is to not exactly stick to the planner (only because I am a little bit fussy and don't like the porridge, also we do have some meat and stuff in the freezer so it makes sense to use that) but to do all main meals at least once and to try out the lunches and snacks too. I am also doing Weight Watchers at the moment so may have to swap meals round so my points are ok.
The reason I am doing this is mainly because I thoroughly enjoyed doing the Shirley planner, the new recipes, skills and friends I made in that month so I am hoping to have a similar experience this month. As many of you know my circumstances have changed now and I have my own kitchen so this month should be significantly easier for me in practical terms.
    So here goes month two...............

And, the batch is for 80, do they freeze? or do you snaffle them all when hot (*explodes*)?
  • Well I already have to go back on my promise to test all the dinners at least once. I have just spied the eviiillllllll sweetcorn fritters on the planner, no way will I eat sweetcorn for anyone. Not even lovely Weezl.
