A question about : Wedding venue help. Barns. marquee. prices?

I know there are a few posts like this, but all seem to be asking for the Fermanagh or way down Co - Down direction. I am from outside Cookstown but thinking anything up to an hour' s travel after the church ceremony should be okay? We would love a really rustic barn but so far the prices are eye watering. On their website Larchfield estate Barn is Ј5.5K plus just for the venue!! :-O :-O And Riverdale barn is 3.5K again just for venue. Maybe my price expectations were too low, but I never expected such high prices before you add (I'm guessing) at least Ј35/ Ј45 a head for food?? No idea what marquees cost as the price is not on any website - but have a feeling I may be shocked by these also

So we are back to the drawing board and hoping some of you folks might be able to help?. We just don't want to get into debt for one day, but want something a little bit unusual rather that the normal run of the mill hotel. Any suggestions?

Best answers:

  • Try Magnakata (tipis). They look amazing!
  • Wow they do look amazing!!. But at Ј6400+VAT without extras. Plus then cost of food maybe trying to get something a little bit different is just to costly...
  • OMG!!! Didn't know that Oops.
  • I'm in the same boat, prices are horrendous. Tbh, as with most things in NI, wedding venues in general seem to more expensive here. Have u considered Donegal? Prices in the South seem to be a bit more reasonable. And there's always Breckenhill (near Ballyclare), they were doing quite a good package. Although that might be a bit far?????
  • How many guests are you hoping to have? I don't live that far from you and may know of a few one in particular but I think 60/65 would be max. As regards Larchfield I was told but I don't know how true it is that you have to bring toilet paper for bathrooms. It is a beautiful setting but very expensive,
  • Breckenhill isn't too far and prices are a lot lot more reasonable. I'm maybe being fussy but the only thing is it just looks like a function room inside and then whats the point of having it in a barn then. Although I do think it may be worth taking a look at and maybe I will change my mind.
Cough Potato - Where you thinking? Numbers are not confirmed yet until we know what venue etc.
    Thanks!!
  • Blessingbourne Estate in Fivemiletown. The grounds are stunning and the owners Nick & Colleen are absolutely lovely.Just checked websire they can accomodate up to 80 guests.
  • I wud say def go & have a look - places i thought I'd love I hated when I visited them, & places I wasn't too sure about I ended up really liking. We looked at Lusty Beg & it was really lovely - on the website it looks a bit like a marquee, but it's actually drapes that can be taken down if u prefer. Below all those drapes are exposed beans & neutral walls - very barn-style!!!
  • As you were looking at Larchfield, there are a few others in the vacinity:
Montalto Estate near Ballynahinch - recenlty opened carriage rooms for functions
    Ballyduggan Mill near Downpatrick.
    The Barn at Rowallane (Saintfield)
While some of these palces are exactly barns they are what I would term buildings with character.
Marquees can be very expensive - but some venues will provide them for you and decorate etc.
    These places include
    Blesssingbourne Estate (Fivemile Town)
    Possibly Gosford Castle (Markethill Armagh)
I found a good place to start was look up the list of venues licensed to hold civil cermonies (even though you aren't having a civil wedding - the list can be useful for finding a reception venue - each council should ahve a list published on the website)
  • We scoured the country looking for a wedding venue, castles, hotels, the lot.
Finally we found this little gem, it was superb..
    read the reviews --> https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowUse...ECK_RATES_CONT
  • ohhhh Ive never heard of some of these places. Off to google- Thanks!!!
  • Was at a wedding at Ballyduggan Mill in Downpatrick last year and it was great. It's definitely worth looking at.
Have a look at Brownlow house in Lurgan too. No idea about price though, I think there is very little moneysaving about wedding venues!
  • Tempo Manor maybe https://tempomanor.com/wedding-photography-booking/
Went down to see it recently as an option for wedding photos - looks really nice and a huge area for a marquee beside the lake and gardens
  • Ok, so maybe this discussion isn't on anymore but I just came across it while endlessly trawling the internet for NI (Co. Antrim) wedding locations akin to what you are all speaking of...
I'm a DIY kind of girl, hoping to get married to a lovely Spaniard next July and the last last last thing I want is a 'conventional hotel wedding'. I'd love a place like a 'blank canvas' for me to work on, maybe in a place with a pretty garden where we could do the photos.
So I was wondering, brides-to-be (maybe you are all married now! -if so, where did you's do it?? (: ) any more, more recent venues that I could take a look at...?
I'm honestly losing hope that there is ANY potential wedding venues for me in the Antrim area...
  • Hi, this one is not far from Co Antrim - it's central within Northern Ireland, Ballyscullion Park in Bellaghy, I was at a wedding there last year and it was amazing, they work with a local marquee company - Oldtown Marquees also based in Bellaghy, who have very reasonable prices.
  • Try Mossley Mill, don't think you can get married there but they do sometimes host receptions
  • Lissanoure Castle, near Cloughmills is lovely for weddings.
  • If you are keen on somewhere like Larchfield perhaps worth looking at a midweek or out of season date as from their website they discount massively for these. Sundays are also much cheaper - even in the summer. I did a comparison against other places and over all they worked out really good value - the hotels just seem to get you at every little extra. I know someone who booked a Ј10.5k package and ended up paying Ј23K!!! and know she isn't the only one... hope this helps!
