A question about : Wedding Day Make Up

Hi all

So I know this is a money saving site and really I should think about doing my own make up on my wedding day, but I know what I'm like for getting stressed and frazzled and panicky and then I start to sweat.
This does not a pretty bride make, and will also make the make up slide off.

I'm looking into finding a make up artist and think I've found one for a reasonable price of Ј45 on the day (Ј40 trial beforehand).
Does anyone have any tips on questions to ask in advance to make sure you are getting a good one? Or questions/ things to look out for at the trial.

Some of the prices I was being quoted seemed crazy Ј120 on the day and a Ј70 trial!! (I know they say you get what you pay for, but I just can't justify that cost, it's more than the groom's suit hire and bridesmaids dresses)

• Am a Makeup Artist and I charge Ј30 for Wedding Makeup for bride and Ј20 for trial. I've just started out so for me its about getting business. I don't understand how people can charge Ј100+ its pretty simple makeup it just needs to be long lasting. Prehaps she is cheap because like me she is starting out in business. Doesn't mean that the one's who charge more are better.
  Most MUA's have a portfolio, wither or not thats online or in person. I'd look out for what brand of makeup she is using. Don't be afraid to ask questions. I normally talk my client through products as am using on them. Not that high end makeup is always the best but its more if its long lasting and for your skin type. Take a picture with flash after your makeup, some makeup has spf in it (but most mua are careful not to use these on weddings) and it causes flashback and a white cast.
  Make sure she is prepping your skin and using a primer (to help makeup last) and a eye primer. I'd ask for waterproof mascara just in case as well.
  Have your trial before a special event like even your hen night if possible. That way your not wasting the makeup and once you have your desired makeup look for wedding you can ask could she just smoke up your eyes a little or apply a bolder lip.
• I agree with asking to see a portfolio, especially if you have (or want) a specific 'look' - for example, if you would wear bright lipstick to a really nice meal out, then don't feel like you have to have a typical 'bridal' look just because it's your wedding. A good makeup artist will understand that and will show you those different looks and ask lots of questions about what you're after.
  My other tip would be get the trial early in the day if you can, as that way you'll be able to see if it's going to last the full day of the wedding. I did my own makeup but would quite often go to work with a full face of makeup when I was practising to make sure it would hold up!
• This isn't something I've started looking at myself yet but I just wanted to recommend finding somebody who does airbrushing makeup. I had it done for the first time last year when I was a guest at a wedding and it was fantastic. It looked completely flawless and stayed looking like this all day with only minimal touch-ups needed. I would recommend it to anyone!

  The cheapest MUA actually offers the airbase make up which I am intrigued by! Especially now you have recommended it lexilex
  Think I definitely need to ask what make up brands they use and arrange a trial.
  I guess if the trial doesn't work I can find another or do it myself
  Just don't want the disaster of bright red blush cheeks on the day, especially if I'm drinking as they go quite red anyways!
