A question about : Water bill extremely high?

Ј2,306.80 for three months.

Either there was a leak in the rental property or we failed to spot the Olympic sized swimming pool in the garden.

We have contested it.

Best answers:

  • OK.
1 Is this based on actual readings?
2 What is the billing period
3 If it is a leak?
Average us is 55m3 per person per anum
Turn off stop tap at night. Take reading. Do not flush toilets or use overnight. Next morning, check reading. If lower, leek is outside your supply. If same, supply is ok.
Turn on Stop Tap. If there is an inrush and meter moves, leak is on your side.
Cisterns are notorious for leaking. Check each toilet and Hot Water header as well as the central heating cistern.
Toilets leak like a sieve. Add blackcurrant cordial (Cheap bottle) to cistern. Do not flush, and if blackcurrant appears in bowl after a while, there is a leak.

  • Three months period and actual readings!
Large leak found in field next to house, so that why we didn't see anything.
Anglian water are revising the bill, so hopefully a happy outcome.
  • That's why its a good idea to read your own meter regularly - at least once a month so you can spot leaks and get them sorted out before they either cost a fortune or undermine your house.
  • Totally agree matelodave!
Informed the agents, who told us to inform owner. Told them to do it, that's what you're paid for...
