A question about : Waste Tech

Waste Tech customers beware.

This has been bought to my attention by FSB which I recommend. They advised me to join with Team Waste for our rubbish collection- I checked out the difference in prices and I have saved Ј150 a month!!!

Waste Tech
-------------
- Charge Ј100 for an annual certificate that is available for free!
- Provision Charge
- Landfill Charge
- Price revision four times a year

Team Waste
-------------
- Free Ceritifcate
- No Provision
- No Landfill
- One Price revision annually
- Cheaper than Waste Tech anyway

Waste Tech have so far refused to cancel my contract as they charged me for a pickup when they didn't pickup. When asked when could I cancel my contract was told it is in my contract which if I want I have to request ion writing and won't tell me over the phone!

They are over charging and we need to stop them! I don't know if Team Waste can help out all of you lot but check out your rubbish collection bills this is going to save me Ј150 x 12 = Ј1800 pa.

Anyone else had problems cancelling their contracts?

Best answers:

  • Totally agree Robert. Wastetech are a rip off. We arranged a price with them which they increased twice without informing us in advance. First time it was resolved - second time they would not budge.
I told them they were in breach of contract which states they will inform us of any price increase. They said that the invoice was their method of informing us of price increase!! I had the same pathetic runaround to cancel and was told I would have to spend about Ј2000 to settle the annual contract including an unpaid Ј200 invoice.
In the meantime we changed to Team Waste - never had any problems since... In doing that they charged us with breach of contract for using another waste service provider. After a lot of angry phone calls they finally accepted just the settlement of the invoice and all was done. They have had the cheek to try and get our business back since - absolutely no chance!!
  • Well I'm having much the same problem. How do I get rid of them? I can't find any contract and Trading Standards aren't being much help!
What can I do without getting into trouble, I don't want a court case although I think the Judge would understand why I wanted to leave for example Dec 2005 £185 June 2007 £356!!
I will do whatever it takes, was thinking of just writing and saying you have ignored all my letters and now I'll leave the bins outside and if you want them come and get them!
  • I have a nasty feeling we are with Waste Tech too, and have an annual contract, which they don't give much notice of renewing. I am hoping it is not one of those where you have to give notice at the start of the contract, IYSWIM, as I intend to give them 3 months notice!
  • It is three months notice from the month you started! At least remember you can get the certificate for free, heck I'll send it to you lol
Would you mind telling us abit more, could try and help
  • I'll have to fish the stuff out at work and look at it. thanks for the offer!
  • No problem. Just find out the date of the contract you can request it if you can't find it but they will charge you £15 for the privilege; send any letter by recorded delivery.
Then you have to give three months notice from the date on the contract for cancellation. I've had a solicitor look at the contract and it seems they can pretty much charge what they like!
  • I am fairly sure the contract runs from 1 January. So are you saying I need to give 3 months notice on 1 January? I was hoping to give 3 months notice on 1 October.
  • You are correct 3 months notice before the end so yes if it is in January then write by recorded delivery in September ( October, November & December ). Just to be on the safe side- these cowboys will not want you to leave and will try anything perhaps send it now!
There is one other trick you can do
  • Well the cafe opposite from me is stuck till July ... NEXT YEAR! but as I told him the contract seems to be solid but I contacted them and told them I'm recycling more and that I would only be requiring half of the collections as usual. Then you could get the other companies to collect and just remember until your contract ends that any certificates are free on the environmental website.
I'm from Brighton but I found Teamwaste to be much better value and don't seem interested in ripping you off. Alan something I'll get you the number if you want?
  • I know, I've e-mailed Martin to ask if he could alert all small business but perhaps he is busy with the Bank charges issue. I don't think they can charge you this admin of £15 or why couldn't we? When I get into work I'll get the number for you.
Glad I have at least helped out one person
  • Team Waste, (01273) 608010
  • Does anyone else know about this? There isn't anything I can see on the Terms about charging admin - why do they pay me a fee?
    Martin!!! See this Post!
  • Hi
This one isn't really me. I very deliberately am about wha tyou should rather than what you shouldn't do. If I warned about every dodgy or costly company I wouldn't have time for anythng else.
    Sorry
    Martin
  • Well at least he is honest. I appreciate Martin is very busy but this I feel is different! I would want to know if HSBC doubled its prices and added extra charges whilst holding me in a contract.
Perhaps we could have a add-on to the MSE newsletter? Somewhere the consumers could add or a warnings section.
This could save any people running small business £150 / per month!! More than most of the newsletter tips!
  • I'm having bad problems with Wastetech too for a long time now. Been told I can't get out of the contract till next march since after taking over Rapidwaste they also took over they're contracts (despite me not signing one with wastetech).
Complained for a few months regarding being charged for a 660L bin when only having 360L for 6 months. After many phone calls later they said there wasnt much difference in price anyway (even though its half the size bigger, gave me load of excuses about man labour …..) and offered Ј90 and Ј1 off the fixed price waste charge.
This month I was charged Ј270 which was obviously wrong! Rang up and they said it was due to 25% price increases on landfill charges. Also for some reason they seem to think I have 2 bins a 360L and 660L, so I've been charged for over 9 standing charges at different rates.
Seriously is this company is totally ridiculous:
  • 2 price increases in 1 year due to land fill - therefore raising the price for the fixed waste charge, standard lifts, waste container rental and the landfill charge itself.
  • Ј15 admin charge for a copy of your own contract (was advised ‘If you don’t want to pay then you shouldn’t have lost it’ !)
  • Ј15 (excl. VAT) admin charge for filling out an EU landfill directive form
  • Bad customer service, I have rang up a fair amount of times and the majority of these times I’ve encountered very rude staff who basically cant wait to get off the phone with you. I’m assuming this is due to the constant complaining from unhappy customers.
  • I’m considering taking out another company contract too, but I’m worried about wastetech charging me lots of unnecessary standard lifts to cover the charges. Have any of you experienced this?
Also I received a letter saying that they were going to be collecting payment by direct debit soon. Do I have to sign the direct debit form? Because if I’m having this much trouble now, guaranteed they’ll be taking endless amounts of money from my account if it was direct debited.

  • If your contract only runs until March, I wouldn't sign the DD form, just keep sending cheques promptly! BTW, remember your contract almost certainly requires you to send 3 months notice by recorded delivery, so you need to be doing that very soon!
Discovered mine ran until June, they send out all the revised contracts in January so I'd - stupidly according to them! - assumed that's when it ran from! Agree with you that they are rude and unhelpful to the point of obstruction ...
