A question about : *Washing Machine Advice Please*

Hi all x

My washing Machine has decided to give up the Ghost on me and with 3 children I need to decide on a replacement quickly.
I Currently have a 9kg washing machine so would like one either the same size drum or bigger.
my Budget is around Ј420

Please help which would you all recommend and which would you avoid?

Thank you in Advance.

  • Hi
With washing machines then really I have a simple rule - Miele is the best by far and are really the only machines to have if you want a machine to last a serious amount of time. But if you really can't afford a Miele then Siemens would be a VERY distant 2nd place.
    Anything else is a lottery.
Please be wary of some people's advice and general reviews as often the general public have a very isolated and limited experience of domestic appliances. I have been in the industry for more than 20 years, working for manufactures, retailers and for the last 14 years my own business.
    Good luck

  • Current make and model and what's wrong with it? W/m's are modular, they're almost always repairable-what matters is if they're economically repairable.
For that budget I'd be looking at a mid-range Bosch, not sure on drum sizes for your particular requirement.
  • Something like this??

  • I recently bought a Bosch WAQ283S1GB (model recommended by Cisco above) and I absolutely love it, best washing machine I've ever owned. It's extremely quiet (important for us due to open plan kitchen layout), has all the programmes I need without being unduly complex, and has really useful features, for example allowing you to pause the cycle and unlock the door if you find a stray sock that was supposed to go in, also a 'Speed Perfect' setting that reduces the time of any wash cycle. It was about Ј400 but the cheap Indesit I had before that was rubbish.
  • Thank you so much for all your replys I was looking at the Hotpoint aqualtis 11kg as Argos have it on special at Ј414 down from Ј700 and odd
Will have a look at some bosch ones
    Any more info greatly appreciated

  • Check out the LG direct drive washing machine. I've had mine for over 10 years without a single fault and still going strong. Not sure of drum sizes/weight that they produce now, but worth a look.
  • Hotpoint...why why why? With 3 kids you are probably washing every day, so you need something that will last you more then the 3 years or so you'll get out of a Hotpoint if used 300+ times a year.
If the old one has something simple gone (like the motor brushes), then it could be fixed for Ј50.
If not I'd suggest the Bosch WAQ28461GB at around Ј400, though it has less drum capacity. A recent Which? test rates the Hotpoint well down the list, and with only 2 out of 5 for the rinse. The Zanussi ZWF91283W is the highest rated Best Buy within your budget, at Ј330. That has a 9kg drum.
  • Another vote for an LG. Quietest I've had, 10 year guarantee on the motor.
  • My current machine is A hotpoint aqualtis and cost a little over Ј600 at time of purchase
Its around 6 years old and think Ive had to have it looked at once.
I need a reliable energy cost effective machine that can stand up to being used daily.
Will take a look at Bosch and LG models and see what I find.
Once again thank you all for your help, tips and Advice

  • I ended up going for the 11kg LG steam direct drive model.
More pricey than I wanted but has a 5 year warranty.
Thank you all for your help.
