A question about : Virgin Media Retention thread

Following my phone call to NTL yesterday, I thought I ought to make people aware. Seeing some other postings, I decided to try and get a better deal for my broadband. I'm on 2MB @ 24.99 a month and have been a customer for 2 years. I phoned, mentioned Tiscali equivalent is Ј17.99 and got 3MB @ Ј17.50 for 3 months. I explained that in 3 months I'll be in the same situation, so why should I stay? The lady explained that this is the best offer she can do at the moment - the offers change and to ring back in 3 months. So basically, if you ring every 3 months you can get the better deal all the time - the lady confirmed this with me. Ј17.50 for 3 MB of broadband is very good. I think it's Ј37 a month normally. I don't mind ringing every 3 months if I can get this sort of deal. Thought this might be useful for others.

  • My brother contacted me the other day and asked about - dare I say it - BULLDOG broadband. I said that I had recommended them to a colleague at work and the colleague had signed up but he is yet to hit 8meg download speed - possible exchange problem.
Anyway to cut a long story short - I signed up with bulldog and rang NTL to cancel the B/B, They asked why I was canceling and I mentioned Bulldog - they said that I could have the 3meg B/B for NOTHING for three months then a reduced rate of 29.99 for the year. I will be ringing back in 3 months to see what they can do for me again.
I then cancelled bulldog - sent 3 emails - forget trying to ring them couln`t get through - there customer service is absolutly appalling!! worse then NTL`s
    BTW - I was on 2meg for 12.50 for 6month!!
  • I have just spoken to NTL and asked for a better deal on my broadband. I stated that I have been a customer for about 3 years and I'm out of contract. I'm currently on the 1mb package for Ј17.99. I asked if was possible to have the discount that new customers were getting offered on their website which is Ј9.99 for 1mb for 1 year. To my surprise they did it no questions asked!
  • Great thanks, will have to phone them up on Monday to see if I can get mine cheaper.

  • I only have broadband from NTL (Ј24.99 a month package), but have been with them for about 7/8 years now, do you reckon they'd give me a reduction if I phoned up?
  • do your homework first then give customer services a ring, tell them that as you are out of contract there seem to be better deals out there. or do as I did mention the special offer they have for their new customers which is Ј9.99 for 1meg broadband for a year. they should oblige as they dont want to lose customers. good luck.
  • I have been watching this thread and similar ones with interest.....
I have also been with ntl for a good few years and am currently on their 2mb broadband package. Surely I'm right in saying though, that if people elected to upgrade from their old 750k package to their 2mb package (presumably the same with other upgrades?), ntl in effect made people sign up a a further 12 month minimum contract period?
  • I have been chopping and changing my Tv package and Broadband with NTL for the last 2 years + after the first year contarct expired.
They always offer me the new customers offers. currently I am on the free Sports Tv, family package 27.00 and Ј10.00 per month 1MB broadband for 1 year. I can change again whenever I like but will find it hard to beat the current deal. We will see
  • brilliant!!!!! think i might give it a whirl. wot department did you telephone??
  • Hurrah. I'm now Ј9.99 too. That's Ј10 in my pocket and with my new cheap calls I'll be in the money
  • Just called customer retentions, to enquire about canceling my phone and 2MB broadband. When asked why, told them that Plusnet were offering 2MB for Ј14.99.
After a few minutes they came back and offered 2MB BB for Ј19.99 for 12 months. After declining their offer saying that the Plusnet's service appeared better than theirs, they came back and offered free line rental for 12 months. So now paying Ј24.99 instead of Ј35.49 per month for the next year.
I did get the feeling though that there were limitiations on what they could offer, and they didn't want to give me BB that cheap, so fiddled it by offering the free line rental instead.
