A question about : Video Conferencing Systems

Hopefully some of you can help.

My boss has asked me to come up with a recommended web conferencing system. At my work we have a small number of sales guys in all corners of the globe.... phone calls and skype just don't cut it. He wants something where he can see the person and have video meetings, anywhere up to around 6-10 people at the most at any one time.

I will be doing my own research, but do any of you use a system that you can recommend personally? If so please let me know what you use and what you like about it.

Any help is appreciated.

Best answers:

  • Start with a budget and a spec..
The Cisco kit is very good, 4k cameras, multi screens and links to allow you to present PC material as well as seeing people. However it has a retail list price of about a quarter of a million dollars for each unit, but you may get discounts for quantity.
You also need to consider the bandwidth of all users, if one of your people is on a low ADSL line then there's no point having 4K kit that saturates the link to make it unusable.
Much lower end there is Logitech kit, but I'd suggest you start with a budget and take it from there....
  • We used Citrix GoToMeeting.
    An excellent product.

  • We tend to do our conferencing via Microsoft Lync, using headsets plugged in to our laptops. Whilst these are mostly phone conferences, video conferencing is a capability.
  • WebRTC is the future.
