A question about : Three any good?

I am currently on PAYG with T mobile and have a MotoG. I am thinking of getting a new Sony Xperia z2 and the cheapest I have found is on three network.

I had a contract with T mobile 4 years ago and they were a con! They increased my plan, regularly told me I had used up all my data allowance when it was impossible (had 1gb on my plan). For last 2 years I have been on PAYG and again with a 1gb data, I use 300mb at most each month and I'm probably doing much more now then I did before (spotify and viber on the go)

Anyway, my main worry is that with the plan I'm getting it comes with 500mb, what are Three like? I've read their customer service is awful....I've never had to ring T Mobile much but they were also based in India and not good.

I'm a bit apprehensive about signing up for 2 years again, but I really want a new phone as I take a lot of pics and love to listen to music on the go. The Xperia allows sd card for storage which is ideal for me and has a fab camera...no more carrying my camera everywhere.

so what are Three really like with billing, data and coverage?

thanks

  • Ditto everything AMK515 said.
Moved to them after 18+ years with T Mobile, and haven't looked back.
Coverage is good, at least on par with T Mobile, plus you get 4G which I would've had to convert to EE for. If there's no signal but is wifi, you can use the 3 In Touch app and make calls or send texts over wifi. Very clever, and an absolute godsend if you live rurally like I do.
Data is great. Four times more than T Mobile were prepared to offer me for what I pay to 3. Again, the 4G is a bonus, although I have to say it's not as screamingly fast as I'd thought.
They mucked up initially, by getting me the wrong size SIM, but since then, (touch wood) I've had no trouble with them. Mistake by a salesman, and nothing more. They knock spots off T Mobile, especially in the customer service department.
Are they the cheapest? No, there's the likes of GiffGaff (My dad is on that), but given that I'm not settled down and like to have a physical shop to go to, I'm not brave enough for that yet
  • I changed from giffgaff to three to get unlimited 4G data. Coverage at home can be a bit patchy but out and about it is far superior to o2/giffgaff/Tesco - in the places I visit.
If you can buy a three PAYG SIM and try it out.
500mb would be far too little for me to be honest.
Had to call customer service twice and my issues were resolved quickly so no problems with them for me.
  • I've been with 3 about 6 months, no problems with coverage anywhere and get speeds of up to 38 mbps on 4g. It's faster than my fibre broadband, and unlimited so I don't even bother connecting to the wi-fi at home.
Also includes up to 4gb of tethering in the allowance.
  • The only certain way to check coverage is to get yourself a free PAYG Three SIM and try it in your phone. If there is little or no reception where required, then the other aspects of their service become utterly irrelevant.
