A question about : Thomas Cook Cash Passport Rip-off

title=Mad I received an email from Thomas Cook offering me 'free' 50 Euros if I purchased Ј1,000 on their pre-paid cash passport card with them or the Co-op Travel. I rang up the Co-op and they said the rate was 1.222 Eur, so with the 50 Eur on offer I thought that would be 1,272 Eur on the card, very good I thought. I went to the shop (pre-ordering wasn't an option) 8 miles away and it transpired that they couldn't use the tourist rate they had to use something called the download rate which was 1.1196 - so for Ј1,000 plus the 'free' 50 Eur would be 1,169.60 Eur a huge 102.40 Eur less than I was expecting and 52.40 Eur less than their own rate today!! I am furious I did a 16 mile round trip for nothing and very disappointed that a company like Thomas Cook can resort to such cheap tricks.
Anyone else experienced this?

Best answers:

  • As far as I'm aware, Thomas Cook and Co-op aren't related. The only similarity is that they both offer a Cash Passport, that is provided by Travelex, not themselves.
  • The co op is actually part of Thomas Cook so I am led to believe
