What is the deal?

On (or around) the 28th February 2011 Tesco declared a price war on it's rival Asda, with a policy that if you bought an item in Teso, and it was found by their Price Checker, to be cheaper at Asda, they would give you Double the Differece (DTD)

News Item

Is there a minimum purchase?

Only one item needs to be purchased

Will this work in tesco express?

No. It also doesn't work at selected metros. if they have banners up in these stores, then i presume that they're doing the offer??

What is the maximum amount i can get in DTD?

10 receipt claims can be made each calendar month and Ј100 per household each calendar months. Tesco has capped individual Price Check vouchers at Ј20, so make sure that your shopping is no more than Ј10 cheaper at Asda if possible!

Why have I received an over the limit email?

Before sharing this theory about the 'over the limit' e-mail, there are a couple of disclaimers to this part of the thread. Simon31leeds has kindly given his interpretation, although some disagree.

'The first is that we are not 100% sure this is how the process works, but research indicates it is working in this way, but as always, open to suggestions for alternative theories.

The second is that this is not intended to in any way condone breaking the Ј100 limit per household per month condition within Tesco's T&C's. If you decide to go over Ј100 a month limit, that is your choice as are any repercussions as a result. It has been added however, because you could fall foul of the 'over the limit' e-mail without actually breaking their own T&C's in this respect due to the way we suspect the software has been programmed.

You may also shop for relatives or friends but assume that different households can use the same e-mail but it appears the system in place currently uses your e-mail as a marker to an individual household rather than multiple households so each individual household should use an individual e-mail address.

Where you are using a DTD voucher to kick off your shop say on 1st May carried over from April, you must incorporate this value (Ј10 ASDA value for a Ј20 starter voucher to kick off your shop) into your calculations for when you reach your limit. It is absolutely essential to work on the ASDA value and not the capped Mr T voucher value. You should then count the ASDA value for each shop you do using that initial and subsequent vouchers along with your one you are anticipating to keep within the limits (not the capped Mr T voucher value). A practical example is shown below:

DTD voucher of Ј20 used to start shop 1 (Ј10 ASDA value) so fairly or otherwise, Mr T takes this into account for calculation purposes. This means before you have even started to shop, you are Ј10 down on your 'allowance' if you start the month with a voucher as the running total is already Ј10.

Shop 1 generates another Ј20 voucher, but the ASDA value (e.g. what it would cost in ASDA is Ј12 cheaper). Your running total is now Ј22 and not Ј40 Mr T value. You use this voucher for shop 2.

Shop 2 generates another Ј20 voucher, but the ASDA value (e.g. what it would cost in ASDA is Ј13 cheaper). Your running total is now Ј35 and not Ј60 Mr T value. You use this voucher for shop 3.

Shop 3 generates another Ј20 voucher, but the ASDA value (e.g. what it would cost in ASDA is Ј11 cheaper). Your running total is now Ј46 and not Ј80 Mr T value. You use this voucher for shop 4.

Shop 4 generates a Ј16 voucher, with the ASDA value being Ј8 cheaper.

By submitting this 4th shop in May (example month) you will go over your limit even though in Mr T terms you would only have received Ј76 in vouchers including this shop. This is because the ASDA value running total would hit Ј54, over the ASDA value Ј50 which we believe is being used in the software for calculation purposes.

We are not suggesting a solution to this, but you need to be aware of it and what figures the software appears to be basing itself upon. From there, you can make your choice how you wish to deal with shop 4 in the example above'

How long is my DTD voucher valid for?

28 days from issue

Can i use my DTD voucher and get a refund on the items that i bought (or vice versa)?

Risky business. If you return the item, it's usually marked on your receipt; this may go against you if you want to use the whole DTD voucher on your next shop.

I've entered my receipt details - When will I get an email?

Originally the emailing system wasn't great, and many never received them. This resulted in people typing in their details again, and finding it there waiting. However it is now becoming more reliable and the emails appear to be arriving. The inputting again of the info, like done previously however is becoming less reliable. With reports of individuals have to type their details in dozens of times to get THE VOUCHER.

They normally come through in a big batch at some time between 11 and 5ish. There will normally be a giant shout of VOUCHERS on this thread too! If this happens, and you haven't had an email, then go back to www.tescopricecheck.com and re-enter your email address and receipt details. You may well find the voucher waiting for you.

I inputted my receipt details but have since lost my receipt, is there anything I can do?

You must treat your receipt like you would a twenty pound note. Although you can always just hand over your voucher, Tesco are in their right to request to see your receipt. Without this, your voucher could be void.

My voucher from yesterday hasn't come through?

This happens sometimes due to technical errors or glitches, and in most cases they appear within a day or two (normally with another days batch.) If you haven't had it back within a couple of days then you could contact customer services.

How do I work out my shopping?

You could try the old fashioned way pen and paper. Or use a calculator. Here is the Tesco DTD Calculator

Calculator

When are the prices updated on Tesco/Asda?

This varies a lot at the moment - both seem to do updates in the middle of the night, with Asda doing a big one on Monday and tesco seem to change a lot of their deals Tuesday/Wednesday. Even though we are trying to keep the spreadsheet as up to date as possible, you should always check the specific items you want to buy on the Tesco and Asda sites before you go shopping, and make sure the in store price matches in tesco.

Why has my item been returned N/A?

This is because Tesco's price checker program did not find the same item on the Asda site - not that it wasn't actually there.

The price has changed since I bought my item, will I still get my DTD?

Tesco should compare on the day you bought the item so if it goes up or down in price the next day you should still be ok. Should. I promise nothing!!!

The Times and numbers don't match between voucher and receipt!

Some people are having issues with the codes not matching up properly. There are two issues - 24 hour clock appearing as 12 hour on the vouchers, and some other parts losing and gaining 0s and 1s. Customer services are aware of this and have confirmed these vouchers are fine to use. If you have any hassle in store then tell them to call head office. if they still refuse, COMPLAIN!

PLEASE BE AWARE THAT ON SOME VERSIONS OF IE THE SCISSORS AROUND THE VOUCHER DOES NOT PRINT OUT, AND ARE CAUSING SOME STAFF TO BELIEVE THE VOUCHERS ARE FAKE. IF THIS HAPPENS USE CHROME OR FIREFOX.

Can I print off the same voucher and use it again?

No, No, and No again. Please, don't even ask this on the thread as it just causes arguments! Whilst none of us are legal experts many perceive that this would be fraudulent. It's not worth it - DTD is good enough as it is.

Where's the FAMOUS spreadsheet?

Coupon use policy

Lots of people have difficulty getting stores to accept coupons (which many of us want to go alongside our DTDs!) so the following is the coupon policy which Customer Services have confirmed to me today

'We'll happily accept your coupons if you've bought the product.

This includes Tesco and supplier coupons.

Unfortunately if you haven't bought the product we can't accept the coupon.'

This means that we accept coupons for products purchased by customers. This also complies with the Terms and Conditions written on each coupon. We will continue to accept Competitor Conditional Spend Coupons as long as the minimum spend (stated on the coupon) has been met, as well as Healthy Start and Luncheon Vouchers.

Online shopping - DTD-ing.

Getting the DTD voucher -
The biggest danger is prices changing between order and delivery. Thing to do to avoid this -
If you place an order just after midnight you can get delivery the same day. Many offers have been available for days so if you can't do this, you can still dtd online.

Check your order online with tesco & asda for pricecheck shortly before delivery and be prepared to give back anything that's no longer DTD worthwhile.

Be sure to check 'no substitutions' on your order.

Spending the DTD voucher from an Online Shop -

You'll be emailed a voucher which you can print and either give to the delivery driver on your next order, or use in store.
If you give it to the driver you have to spend from your account then wait up to 2 weeks to have it credited. If you use in store, you don't need to part with the cash first.
I suspect vouchers from online shops are easier to trace as they have your order no and postcode on the voucher so be more careful of Ј100 limits. (they'll also be traceable with any clubcard registered to your account).

Remember that although the max dtd is Ј20 the min delivery is Ј25 plus delivery so you will have to spend at least Ј8 actual cash, this may be reduced if items aren't in stock/you give goods back to the driver etc.

A Quick guide

GUIDE

Always check the following if you want to bag a DTD deal:

1. Check the Tesco price check website for your item here . Try not to be specific i.e. enter terms like 'salmon' rather than 'john west salmon'. - sadly this was withdrew on or around the 18th March 2011 and doesn't appear to be coming back online.

2. If you spot an item that's considerably cheaper at ASDA on the Tesco price check website, then things are looking good.

3. Now, check to see if your item is on the Tesco grocery website
https://secure.tesco.com/register/?f...2fgroceries%2f

and Asda grocery website ( here ). Make sure you check that the products are identical AND check that the prices match the ones you found on the Tesco price check website (step 1).

4. Repeat the steps above for any other items you'd like. Once you've got a list of your items.....

5. ...go to tesco and find your items. Check the SEL of all items to see if price, product, quantity, weight all match up with what you're about to buy. Check to see if it all matches on your list. If an item is on offer (e.g. BOGOF, buy 2 for Ј3 etc.), then make sure you put one item into your trolley!

6. At the checkout, check the price of all your items that scan through; as they may not match the SEL. If you got some items that you know are cheaper at Tesco, then put these through as a seperate transaction. DTD is applied to your basket total.

7. Enter receipt details online https://www.tescopricecheck.com/Pric...s/Default.aspx and wait! Results should appear within 24 hours, although in some rare cases it can be a few days.

  • new spreadsheet information please read
OK, we have been working on some modifications to the way we update the spreadsheet as trawling through everybody's posts is a massive task, and there aren't that many of us.
So, with this in mind, from now on all spreadsheet update requests should be submitted using this form
    https://spreadsheets0.google.com/vie...djblE6MQ#gid=0
The form can be used to submit new deals, notify us of your confirmed deals for today, notify price changes or tell us to delete something.
Before you send us an update, please check carefully whether the item is already on the spreadsheet. You can do this by pressing CTRL+ F and searching. If it is already there but you need to send us an amendment, then please copy the description from the spreadsheet in to your form. This will make our lives a whole lot easier, A LOT EASIER. PLEASE CHECK BEFORE YOU SEND YOUR CONFIRMED LIST if the item has already been updated for today.
Also, we will only put the website prices on the SS as there are regional variations in store.
The revised spreadsheet is located here (live version)
    https://spreadsheets.google.com/spre...lE&output=html
We have revamped the SS with deals split in to tabs. These should be visible from the link above but here are the individual ones just in case
For those who are having issues, here are the links to the individual tabs
    HOT and CONFIRMED
    https://spreadsheets.google.com/spre...lE&output=html
    Hot and UNCONFIRMED

    Not so hot
    https://spreadsheets.google.com/spre...E&hl=en&gid=12
    CHARITY DONATIONS
    https://spreadsheets.google.com/spre...E&hl=en&gid=16
We will no longer be updating from the thread (although we will keep our eyes open) so please, use the form.
note to all - deals which have not been confirmed for 1 week are deleted from the spreadsheet so remember to confirm them!
The spreadsheet relies on google hosting it, and their servers have crashed a couple of times lately. It doesn't mean we've removed the SS, barred you or anything else. Please be patient - it normally comes back up within minutes rather than hours
  • Thanks stebiz and scotsgirl for all your efforts.
Now the new thread is up and running, we can all sleep soundly again tonight.
  • Just to say Thank you all very much for all your hard work, We would be lost without you and the spreadsheet.

While we are working on this, we cannot update the sheet and it will be difficult to go back and add past updates in, so please DO NOT POST FURTHER UPDATES UNTIL WE CONFIRM WE ARE READY.
    Thanks a lot guys
I will be reposting this notice throughout the day until we are ready. Thanks in advance for understanding and for your patience.
**While this is happening, it is more important that ever that you use the spreadsheet as a guide and double check prices on Asda's website before shopping.**
  • yesterdays vouchers are there!!!
and thanks very much for the sparkly new thread
  • regarding a post i made on previous thread https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/...postcount=9783 ive just been to tesco and bought 3 eggs to try as no one confirmed the deal and i can firm that even tho they don't advertise the deal it went through the till at 2 eggs for Ј8
  • Thanks to everyone for the hard work on this one.
Just an update as it maybe helpful for some people. I entered my receipt details last Thursday and even with the hints of clicking back I still don't have a voucher confirmed. I phoned up the helpline number on the thread and was told by a nice man that there is some delays with receipts going through and it may take now up to 5 days to get it price checked.
This was my second batch of receipts so I know i am not near the Ј100 limit so it won't be this that is causing a hold up.
I might just have to go and eat a magnum to cope with the wait
