A question about : Tesco clubcard vouchers sold on Ebay question

I have never used Tesco Voucher in someones elses name hence there is a question.
If I buy Tesco vouchers from Ebay will I be able to use those in my name to buy days out etc?

Many Thanks

  • I'd be wary of buying someone else's clubcard vouchers. According to the Tesco website :
"Vouchers are the property of Tesco Stores Limited and have no cash value. They are not for resale / publication and valid in the UK and IOM only. Defaced / copied vouchers will not be accepted. Valid for use only by the recipient, age restrictions apply. Excludes tobacco, Esso fuels, lottery, bureau de change, prescriptions, E-top up, infant formula milk, clothing and entertainment websites, in-store cafes and the Tesco Outlet eBay shop."
You may find that you buy them, only to discover you can't use them.
  • Do you really want to assist in perpetuating this fraud

  • How would you actually use them? When you redeem vouchers online you are presented with a list of your own vouchers that are valid to use - you can't change that list.
  • My Mum gave me some of hers which I turned into airmiles with no problem.
Ask yourself what guarantee do you have that the vouchers haven't already been used before you hand over your cash? You could end up paying a fair bit of cash for worthless paper.
  • I think you'll find that Paypal would consider the loss 'not tangible'. They would have no way of verifying if the vouchers had already been used or not, so the fact that you physically received them would probably result in them ruling in the buyer's favour.
Since the vouchers can effectively be turned into food at Tesco, why would anyone sell them on eBay? And as already pointed out, they are not transferrable.
  • I've seen the vouchers for sale on ebay, but not sure how anyone would get to actually use them.
My son lives in an annex built at the bottom of our garden. He does his own food shopping. We have the same address, different names, different clubcard accounts. Recently I tried to spend one of his vouchers along with mine on Alton towers tickets. The system wouldn't put it through, I ended up phoning the help desk and she said I could use it this time but not again unless I combined accounts, even though my son was one of the people going. I've done this before, in the past, but now the system has been updated it won't work any more.
How about asking the seller how you would get to use it?
  • I wouldn't risk it personally - I don't think PayPal Buyer Protection covers vouchers....
Read the PayPal policies etc very carefully and proceed with caution.....
Also, I know my local Tesco ask to scan your clubcard before they scan any vouchers......
  • they may be the days out vouchers then and not the actual clubcard vouchers themselves...
as once converted into days out vouchers they are simply handed over at the attraction and you walk in and they are kept by the attraction, so technically you could use someone else's vouchers, we have given some to my sister as they were about to expire and we were not going to use them.. and they cant have already been used as you surrender them upon use....
with regard to the normal vouchers, when we moved five years ago we had mail forwarding for a while and updated our address with everyone, but clubcard slipped through the net...
after about a year we suddenly realised we hadn't had any vouchers for a while and rang them.... they said 3 or 4 lots had been sent out, to our old address, and they HAD BEEN USED...
they kindly refunded the balance and reissued them to our new address so we never lost out, but the scum who bought our house felt free to try and use them, and succeeded too.... so it can be done!!
  • The days out attraction vouchers have surname and post code on them and are "not transferable", attractions are supposed to check this but never do. I used some (all from family) last year at one attraction with 3 different surnames and post codes, no questions asked.
