A question about : Tax and NI after leaving employer

I was made redundant in October 2014 and my ex employer has finally admitted that they still owe me money, however they want me to confirm that any payment is a full and final settlement and that I will be liable for any Tax and NI. What should I do?

Best answers:

  • Tax an NI will be taken from the final payment, no?
  • I received what should have been the final payment in October, this was an oversight on their part!!
  • Its about Ј2K but they want me to be liable for tax and NI so it will be gross. I am really worried about the employers contribution aspect.
    Oh and thanks for helping
  • How much was the redundancy payment in total? Anything up to Ј30K is not taxable (and I think no NI is payable, but it's not entirely clear).

If you've already received over Ј30K then tax, and probably NI, will be due on the Ј2K; if it takes you over Ј30K in total then it'll be due on the excess. Either way I can't see how your ex-employer can make you liable for any employer's NI that is due.
