A question about : Support Group query?

Hi
Just had a call from a friend .
To cut a very long story short, he's received a letter today moving him from the WRAG to the Support group
He is relieved the situation has eventually been sorted, but he's quite concerned that the confirmation letter doesn't state how long the
award is for. There is no re-assessment date.
Could i please ask, is this normal, or should there be a re-assessment date?

Any help will be gratefully received.

Best answers:

  • i have never been given a reassessment date on an ESA award letter. i have always had to phone DWP and ask.
i was moved from WRAG to support group without even asking them! they didn't send me a letter to tell me either.
i found out because i received a housing benefit award letter from the council about a 'change in circumstances'
it said because you now receive the support element of ESA....
i phones DW{P and they confirmed that indeed they had moved me from WRAG to support group without assessment for 2 years
  • My OH (who has advanced Parkinsons) was placed in the support group with no mention of how long the award was for and a quick call to the DWP confirmed that the award was indefinite and no reassessment would be required.
  • Many thanks for the replies.
I shall advise him tomorrow to ring DWP
  • My award is for three years but a helpful advisor at the DWP told me this when I rang asking about something else entirely.
  • If your friend was medically assessed, phone and ask the DWP for form ESA85, which will give 'possibility of work' prognosis and suggested review time.
If he wasn't medically assessed, and it was a 'paper' transfer, phone and ask them to send form ESA85A, which will give the same info.
Both give a report on what the conclusions were, and why they were placed in a particular group.
