student accommodation in London

A question about : student accommodation in London

Hi. My son is mid way through his first year at a Uni in central London. At the moment he is doing the daily commute from the South Coast but from September 2015 he would prefer to live in London. His uni does not offer student accommodation and the agencies they referred him to are expensive.
Does anyone have any money saving suggestions for accommodation as I have no idea how to help him search and have heard loads of horror stories? His loan won't cover travelling into London and accommodation so he would need to live somewhere close to London Bridge.

• If you search the Student forum using Advanced search to look for threads with London in the title a large proportion of them are about the cost of accommodation and may be of help to you.
