A question about : Struggling to find a new career?
I'm just after a bit of advice and guidance in moving from a large, corporate IT company, into the smaller business world. Perhaps some of you are in such a company and can offer assistance.
At the moment, I am a Delivery Manager in a large IT company. Unfortunately I am no longer enjoying my role, and it is having an adverse affect on my personal life, leaving me extremely unhappy, and I want to do something about it before it gets any worse.
There are a number of reasons for this, however the main factors are stress levels (I have taken on 3 jobs since the team I am in has shrunk to just myself, no support from management etc), low salary in comparison to colleagues/market rate and low job satisfaction.
I am now looking to move out of the corporate IT world, and into the small/medium business sector where I can use my skills in a number of sectors.
One of the issues I am facing is that I am looking for a role where I can use my skills and creative influence, with one specific role being a Product Manager. Small/Medium businesses cannot afford specific roles such as a Service or Product Manager, and as a number of the businesses in the startup culture are trying to be fresh and different, they usually advertise roles with a new name.
For example, a friend of mine informed me about a vacancy at their place of work. The role sounded perfect, and it combined service management and also product development, however on the vacancy page, the job title was called Producer and stated that no recruitment agencies should contact them as all applicant should be direct.
This leaves me with 2 situations I am not sure how to overcome:
1) How do I find these roles, as they do not mention anything to do with a 'business standard' name, such as Service or Product manager, even though that is essentially the role.
2) How do I find such roles, at small/medium businesses who do not want recruitment agencies?
Any help would be appreciated.
