A question about : stolen identity on council tax
Greetings ....
about 5 years ago I moved to london from bristol for work. After two weeks of sleeping on a friends floor I moved into a shared flat. The owners had a guy who met me ,took my deposit and rent. No contract. There were 5 other people in this apartment and although it was rough and smelly it did me for 2 months.
I got a letter last month from a debt collector looking for Ј256 from a court order for council tax not paid. I rang them and they told me to contact the council. I did that and they informed me that I have been on there list as the owner for over 3 years. I have gas bills in my name which have been defaulted plus god knows what else.
what can I do because my credit rating is so bad because of this. I could never understand why till last month.
thank you x

- As good place to start is here.

- I think Action Fraud (police site for this sort of financial fraud thing) might be of some use - worth a look anyway to get it registered as a financial crime - CAB might be better placed to advise on that
