A question about : Some people are IDIOTS!!

I have done a second viewing on a house and put in a offer yesterday. It is a vacant possession (relative died) the EA can't get hold of the vendor! Turns out she spends the winter on holiday! She won't be back until at least 3rd March! Why put a house on the market if you can't be contacted!!! Both her phones go to answer phone and we don't know if she checks email!

I have sold my house and buyers are keen to move! Solicitors are already starting to move. I have low-balled the offer as well so could take a few more days!

There is also others looking at it and wanted it took off the market! As i have seen nothing else I like!!!

RANTING!!!!!

Best answers:

  • Who did you sell to in the end TB, the EA, FTB?
  • How many exclamation marks?
Look 3rd of march is a week away, not exactly long. And depending on where abroad they are, the time difference might mean it's the middle of the night so they, not surprisingly, are asleep. Or they might be dealing with their bereavement.
And if others are looking at it, presumably they won't be able to contact the vendor either.
    Calm down
  • How long has it been on the market?
  • January it went on the market but they have been away weeks.
  • Sounds sensible to me, take a holiday then come back to weigh up offers. Not like she hasn't told the agent and has vanished.
I agree with the post title - many people are idiots. But in this case you seem to want a lower offer accepted quickly to suit your timescales, and beat off other people interested in the house. Don't want to knock you for trying, but seems a little harsh to call the seller an idiot - especially in circumstances.
  • So she'l come back in a week and find 3, 4 (however many) interested buyers with offers. She can then either accept one or start a bidding war.
Meanwhile she is relaxing on holiday while all the boring viewings take place.
As the property is empty (and perhaps with no mortgage) she is in no hurry so can take her time.
    Sounds emminantly sensible to me.
  • There has been no other offers. The place is a 40's time warp so EVERYTHING needs doing. According to the EA there has been other interest however when I first viewed she did not know how to get into the place.
I was told buy the EA she goes away for the winter. This is 2015 you could have a phone call. And if you get a offer on holiday you can have a few extra beers!
  • Was yours the first offer?
I was thinking that low balling your offer wasn't that shrewd since you're desperate and other people are taking an interest.
But if yours is the only offer so far then maybe you're in with a chance.
Oops, sorry, cross posted - took too long correcting the autocorrect!
  • Looks like Mr TB is a little out of their depth with this house buying lark 😄
  • Such is the world of buying and selling houses - I've moved 5 times (on my 6th mission now) and we've had every sort of problem with vendors and buyers on each one - I am expecting much of the same with this one. From lying people determined to mess you around to people ringing my EA every day to chase progress and then when given an exchange date claiming we were rushing them!
It really does bring out the worst in people!
We set our hearts on a property that had had no interest for 2 yrs then on giving the seller an asking price offer he decided to sit on it for a week and we ended up with someone else viewing and outbidding us - such is life.
  • Even if you got your offer in as soon as the estate agents opened yesterday it's been little more than 24 hours. You're being far too keen ....
