A question about : Smoothie recipes anyone?

I’ve started making smoothies as a mid-morning snack, but I’m a bit short of decent recipes. Search engine results seem to throw up so many unrealistic recipes (who has lemongrass sitting around? Or cherry juice?) that it’s such a faff to sort through and find good ones with mainstream ingredients.

So far I’ve got
*milk, banana and peanut butter
*orange juice, frozen berries and natural yoghurt

Sometimes I throw a few extra things in, like hot chocolate powder or oats, but I’m still looking for a bit more variety.

Any ideas?

Best answers:

  • Everything is better if you add Nutella
Although, if you're trying to be healthy by making smoothies, I'd try and avoid loads of peanut butter/choc spread etc. Maybe just a teaspoon? I remember watching an episode of Secret Eaters where their 'healthy smoothies' were full of sugar and calories!
Try Greek yoghurt, fruit and honey if you want it sweeter. Pintrest usually has lots of good smoothie recipes.
  • We've been making smoothies recently and I can report kiwis fir well (12p at lidl this weekend), mango is delicious and you don't need as much banana to thicken it if you use that. Grapes are good but the skin can be tough, fresh squeezed orange juice perks up any smoothie too.
  • Our morning one is usually pineapple, Apple, banana and a few frozen berries.
I use over 5 days (for 2 adults) - 1 pineapple, 5 apples, 5 bananas and 2 takeaway tubs of frozen strawberries / raspberries or red currants.
Add ice and chilled filtered water.
    Yum.
  • I think half the fun is experimenting with what you've got lying around. I got a Nutribullet for xmas and have been trying a few things out with the fruit I usually buuy. So far I've found the following to be pretty tasty;
    Banana, Strawberry, Ice and water/milk
Kiwi, lime juice, strawberry, ice, water
    Mango, Strawberry, ice, water
    Banana, Blueberry, ice, water/milk
I chuck in some goji berries and flax seeds too just cause I've got them kicking about.
Gonna get some apples, pears, apples, oranges and pineapples on the next food shop and experiment some more. One day I might be brave enough to try the broccoli one in the recipe book!
  • If you're trying to be healthy you shouldn't be eating smoothies at all. You're basically just creating a big sugar drink.
  • That's like saying if you want to be healthy don't eat fruit.

  • I found the same as you, some of these recipies are rediculous! Who wants to stock 91 varieties of fruit for a smoothie! :P
    I personaly go for
    - 1/2 a large apple
    - 1 Small/medium banana
    - 1 Kiwi
    - 2/3 Ice Cubes
    - Half pint of skimmed milk
    - Cinamon to taste
As far as im aware its reasonably healthy, quite cheap to make and usualy keeps me going from first thing in the morning (This is my Breakfast) untill about 1pm when I have lunch.
  • Frozen raspberries, yoghurt and mint leaves makes a lovely smoothie and you can add a banana or handful of oats to thicken it up a bit.
Rocket, mixed berries and apple juice is another good one, sounds strange but the combination really works.
I've tried to replicate the flavours of Innocent smoothies at home before but for some reason they never taste the same
