A question about : September 2014

A friend once told me that September is like January to her - time to still make changes in this year and start afresh. So let's make this one a good one!

This is the 85th month of this challenge, which was first started by Batgirl, in September 2007. We have been going strong for 7 years!

I know this first post is long, but please read as it give tips on how this challenge works. Some of the content has changed

If you're new to the challenge don't be scared - here's how it works:

The aim of this challenge is to make Ј10 extra a day everyday for the month. A lot of people think this is impossible but it can and has been done, over and over. If you feel Ј10 is too much why not start at Ј5 or if you're brave join those who aim for Ј20 a day! Anything extra you make is great so set whatever target you think you can manage.
It also doesn't have to be Ј10 each and every day - some days you make more and some days you make less, but aim for Ј300 extra at the end of the month.

The idea is that everyone posts how they are making extra money and these shared ideas help all of us to learn new ways to help cut debt or earn/save money.

What cannot be added:

• Abbreviations - a list of useful abbreviations if there are any we say you don't understand, please let us know and I will update this post.
  How to add a signature - at the top of the page, you will see a green toolbar, click on User CP, on the left hand side, scroll down, until you see Edit Signature. You can then type in your signature, but you are limited by number of lines and characters, but it will tell you if it is too long. Try to make the font smaller usually helps. You can edit colours and add smileys too.
  Edit Avatar - if you want a nice picture like mine do the same as above, USER CP, then scroll down to edit Avatar. There are size restrictions, but you can have most things you like. Just be careful if you are using google images they are free images and not patented/copyrighted.
  Private Message - you can send someone a PM (Private message) again using User CP (Control Panel). It is on the left hand side. You need to have the right user name otherwise it will go to the wrong person. To find out if you have messages, look at the top of the page, where it says private messages, (PMs) and there will be a number in bold if you have any unread. You can subscribe to email so you receive them in your email too, which is useful for reading without logging into MSE. But to reply you do need to log in.
  Roadkill - roadkill is money found abandoned with no owner, on the streets, in washing machines, in the pockets of beloved's clothes when you are about to put them into the washing machine, , on the floor of your car, etc.

• After a very successful August (Ј450 and counting) I am aiming for Ј10 a day in September - I'm actually away (again, I know!) for just over a week - I'm going to Florida on a trip funded solely from this challenge!

  I'd like to join in please. I've just got a part-time job after being self-employed for the past 4 years, and need to top my money up to full-time wages.

• Hi, Please can I join in this month. I got completely lost with the challenge last month. I am back at college this month so I will try for Ј400
• Go on then, I'll give it a go again... it's been a while!
  Put me down for Ј300 (Ј10 a day).
  Though I will be giving birth at some point so I might not quite make it
  Any help for the maternity leave fund would be good right now!
  Here's my ideas!
  I'm going to sell my microsoft surface RT tablet... possibly to CEX as I don't want the hassle of doing ebay - unless someone has another easy option that pays more?
  I'm going to clear out and go through all the books we've accumulated (I hoard them) and use ziffit (with the help of DH to pack them up for me!). I looked at amazon's trade in scheme, but they don't have as many books listed and you get vouchers rather than cash (and I hardly ever use amazon).
  Then I'm going to go and get a library card!
  I'm going to also track my grocery savings and vouchers used.
  I think I'll also count roadkill (picked up lost pennies).
  Was also considering doing a car boot sale, but I don't think I have the stamina at the moment. So instead I'll start to fill a box with stuff to go to a car boot in a future month.
  Also, if the baby is running late and I get bored I have a box of monsoon clothes that will never fit me again that I might spend the time to put on ebay.
  Do people count monetary gifts? e.g. from birthdays?
  All this should be enough to get reasonably far in the September challenge and/or start me off on the challenge again in a future month!
  Oh also, I'll keep working on surveys... but I won't count it til it pays out (I seem to have been doing onepoll for YEARS).

• Sign me up! I've lurked in these threads before and marvelled at you clever money makers, and I think it's time I joined in.
  I've just moved house, after splitting up with my boyfriend, which has cost me a small fortune, and I've got 'final bills' from the utilities companies from my old place to come, so that'll be more money.
  Let's not mention the money I frittered on treat for cheering up purposes after I got dumped...
  I could use an extra cash cushion to soften the damage to my poor bank account. I'm a first-timer and scared so sign me for Ј5 a day please!

  If I had the time I could quite easily smash my target with all my clutter but that would leave me struggling for future months so I think I will stick to clearing one room at a time.
