  • Hi am too! well weve not booked the date yet but we know where were going to and should be doing it next couple of weeks! Sept 15th we would like! what sort of budget are you looking at ?
    Amy
  • hi im after 20th september, i dont want to give the exact date, i dont know why lol
its so nice to see a thread for us,i cant believe its next year!
  • Thanks ladies! Hadley1, you are more than welcome here We've gone for The Mansion House. So we're just looking for the evening venue which we think we've found, and are going to see next week
We're trying to do it on a budget of Ј8k not including Honeymoon, which sounds a fair bit compared to some, but still quite hard to stick to!!
Bubbles, you don't have to give your date, it's not compulsory Hope everyone's planning is going well so far.

  • My cheap ebay fabric arrived today - all 10 metres of it! I'm using it to make a mock-up (or quite possibly two) of my dress. Just need to transport it to my parents' house, as I'll be making my dress there so H2B doesn't get to see it. There's also way more space, a much better sewing machine than mine, and a dress form dummy to help me along Can't wait to get started on it - I keep gazing longingly at the pattern when H2B isn't around!
  • Hehe - I'm forever lurking on everyone else's threads so sneak to your heart's content!
The pattern is this (link removed) one. I want to amend it a bit though, cos I want a V-neck bustline, a cowl back (nowhere near as low as the pattern though: 'the girls' need a little more support than that ), and a long train incorporated within the dress rather than a detachable piece. Hence the amount of cheap fabric for practising - I've made dresses before but never attempted to modify a pattern to this extent. Hmm, is the single most important garment of my life the best one to start with?? Luckily I'll have my mum on hand to help, who also made her own wedding dress.
Wouldn't trust myself with ayone else's though, sorry!
  • Thanks hun I will definitely post regular updates for you, I know how people on here like their piccies
I've actually never made a dress for anyone else - I'd be terrified!! I don't mind if it takes fifteen fittings to get it right for myself, as it's only my own time I'm taking up. I do quite like the idea of being a dressmaker, but would want a hell of a lot more training and practice before I wielded the tailor's shears near anyone else's fabric
You could always ask Linda to make yours
  • Just popping in from the August thread to say congrats on setting your date I'm gutted it wasn't in August though, will have to keep popping by to see how you're doing!
That is so exciting you're making your own dress, you can make exactly what you want and it will be completely unique, plus very mse Looking forward to seeing your photo updates
  • Thanks Tiara!
  • We're 8th September 2012! SO cannot wait! So far venue, humanist, band and photographer booked. At the moment just looking at bits and bobs of stationary etc. just trying to buy when see something for right price. Got our guest book from ebay for Ј10 and our cake toppers were so cheap too! At the moment trying to find a large vintage photoframe (like A2/A1 size) to do a table plan. Just got a picture in my head what I want!
    : ) I LOVE wedding planning!
    xxx
  • Congratulations joanneinwonderland!! You've been added to our exclusive list
We're having a Humanist ceremony as well, although we haven't found a celebrant yet - the one we were thinking of (H2B's mum knows him) has been struck off for apparently not taking his own weddings vows seriously enough... So the search begins again!
You're much more organised than I am! All we've done so far is book the venue. We've been gathering ideas and contacts though, so watch this space...

  • ok seeing as ive subscribed to this thread and hopefully get to know you all as we are doing all our planning Ill let you know my thoughts so far:
    Venue: Chester Zoo
Colour scheme: Deep purple, burnt orange and a hint of green (looks alot nicer than it sounds LOL)
    Theme: Giraffes and Elephants
    number of bridesmaids: 2
    Photographer: 'working on it!'
    Favours: jumbo animal biscuits LOL
Cake: something multi-tiered! Im a cake maker so cost and design isnt really an option
Food: afternoon tea, then a BBQ afterwards
Entertainment: safari around zoo, disco, facepainting, maybe a photobooth and hopefully pinatas LOL
Table decor: N/A as we arent having a sit down meal (but if i was it was goldfish in bowls LOL)
Budget so far approx Ј9000 (eeek!)
aiming for a super fun, informal wedding!
    Love to hear your ideas!
  • lol i know what u mean about budget....our budget is just for the wedding day, we arent having a stag/hen party and probably wont have a honeymoon due to our 2 kids and lack of money LOL
i would have never of thought of turquoise!. the orange is the more dominant over green in mine :0)
im trying to do lost of DIY too, like the invites, cake, cupcakes as part of dessert, photobooth hopefully and having a filmer friend do a video.
by vintagey i always get the idea of multipatterned bunting which looks so awesome!
LOL i would have liked a sit down meal too but we went for the cheaper option of afternoon tea
  • My first colour scheme idea was just purple and tangerine, but I thought that perhaps H2B would like some input too so asked him and he said that he likes turquoise. The three colours look amazing together but we do have to make sure that they are not in equal proportions or it would be a bit too much!
I would love to have bunting! We might ask the venue to let us put some up in the garden, but haven't got that far yet. I really like vintage style clothing so my dress is quite 1930s in style. H2B is thinking of wearing a top hat, so it's kind of gone from there! I will try to think of vintage-y style table decorations as well, but that's not high on my list of priorities as yet.
