A question about : self-employed receipt
Hi,
My wife is self employed doing some cleaning services.
One of her clients asked her to give a receipt.
Is there any specific format and what details the receipt must have?
Is there any template that she can use?
Best answers:
- Unless she is VAT registered there is no legal requirement to give people receipts.
If she does want to give a receipt then it could be whatever you want, half of taxi's just write on the back of a business card Ј10 or whatever it was etc. - Just write out the name of the customer, the amount received and sign it (maybe put the business name or owners name in clear text underneath).
You can blame Ed Balls for that one! - She is not VAT register.
So, any bit of paper is good enough?
What does it need to be written on it? her name, client name, value, date, signature? - (Sorry the Ed Balls bit was tongue in cheek re his recent spoutings - not suggesting it is a legal requirement - just a suggestion why people might suddenly start asking for receipts!)
