A question about : sealing round a gas hob

we have a stainless steel gas hob onto a black gloss worktop .. the kitchen fitters didnt seem to do a good job on sealing it as there are slight gaps not huge but noticable to us.. what sealant can be used as we have lots of kitchen and bathroom sealant but not sure if this is the right stuff

thanks

  • I would use clear silicone as the metal to black would look daft with white sealant.
You can try an dig the old stuff out first and re-do it. Use a wet/washing up liquid finger to get a smooth finish.
  • I've been told that silicone is flamable and therefore this should not be used around a gas hob. Not sure if this is true. Can anybody shed any light on this?
  • Not true at all silicone has a very high temperature resistance once cured, quite often the new hobs come with a very thick and ugly sealing strip in which case most RGI's use silicone.
