A question about : "Sealed Pot Challenge 5"
Yes, we're back again all dedicated Sealed Pot Savers! We're off again with yet another Sealed Pot Challenge! This time it's No 5!! We've had 4 extremely successful money-saving years thanks to you ALL!!
For all newcomers please read through the whole of this post to see what the SPC is all about.
The idea is for us save as much as possible throughout the following year until just before Christmas - which this year will be to open our pots on the 29th November.2012. We save it in pots that we've pre-sealed to stop us being tempted to open them. Any spare cash can be put away, every day/week/month, whatever is best for you. If you have change left after you've been shopping - pop it in the pot! Why not...it won't be missed. Some of us put the difference in that we've been saved on special offers.
Below are the basics for making your pot, sealing it too.
Firstly: Get yourself a pot, and remember - it doesn't need to cost much if anything. If money's tight use any pot for now, I.e. A sweet tin, coffee jar..extremely MSE!! Next - seal it with cellotape and be sure to make a slit in the lid, big enough for a 50p to go in. Later on, if you wish, take advantage of finding one in the sales after Christmas, or put one you fancy on your Christmas list! You can always buy ready sealed tins from reasonably priced shops! About a Ј1!!
It can also be interesting and challenging to have a go at making yourself a Paper Mache pig (or any animal) etc by using Frugaldom's recipe by clicking here then going to Post No. 597. Many thanks to Frugaldom. After selecting your pot, seal round the lid with cellotape or superglue if necessary. Be sure to make a slit in the top that is the right size for at least a 50p! NB. If you make a Paper Mache pot you will need to operate on it at the end of each challenge! Still, you can always have the pleasure of making a new one towards the end of the year.

Terrimundi pots widely available in shops and on-line, are very attractive and another ready sealed way to save, and though they'd have you believe you need to, you DO NOT need to smash them to remove your cash!! I've used mine for 3 years...and at the end of each year's (since 2009 when I graduated from a carton!) challenge hubby and I have a whale of a time, doing things the 'old' way by tilting the pot and using a knife! 
Though, this year DH bought a 12 steel ruler in from the shed which is thin and broad and perfect. So be assured that, so long as you go carefully, you CAN use them again and again....unless you drop the darned things!
The term roadkill applies to any money found on pavements, shops, parks etc; even on shop floors
NB. A few notes of interest.
1/ Any money given as a gift (other than Birthdays, Christmas etc) ie. inherited can not be included as savings. Likewise any money put directly into the bank, or taken from wages is nothing to do with SPC and cannot be included in members' Totals
2/ Whenever you're in that dilemma of ooh should I buy that? If you don't need it, but just want it - leave it there and pot the cash instead, you'll be much more satisfied, pleased with your self-discipline too.
3/ You can ask me to put a Target on for you to try to meet, but it's not necessary. If you don't meet the target you set, it doesn't matter at all, at least you tried. A few people keep account of all they save, but most of us count what we save each day, then put it on the thread to help encourage others then we forget about it and ....wait for the surprise at the end of the year!
4/ Mainly it's a challenge to see how much we can save in a year for Christmas 2012. However, over the last 4 years we've had some members who needed theirs for bills, and personally I'd far sooner they take it out for that rather than pay more interest or miss a due date. You can always start again, even if it's getting later in the year, just be happy.
5/ As I've said, mainly we save for Christmas ~ but ~ if you wish to save for something special, a holiday, wedding etc then please do so, the most important thing, is that we are saving ...and hopefully not tempted to take it out unnecessarily. If anyone has any other queries, then please sing out ....though not too loudly, you might shatter your pots!
6/ At the end of the year (or when we've saved for what we wish) we all declare our Totals either by waiting until the last day of saving - or by putting our Totals on our signatures to remind sparky to include them in the Grand Total. The latter particularly applies to those using their money for holidays etc.
On this and the next 3 posts is a list of members and their numbers, always display yours on your signatures please. If you don't do that then sparky, my 2nd In Command (bless you sparky} gets mad as he counts up all of our Totals on his spreadsheet at the end of the year and I put a Grand Total on of ALL that we members have collected, what a terrific sight that is. (Just a quiet word of warning to all those in the Liverpool area...be up very early in the mornings to get any roadkill..or sparky will have had the LOT!!!

PLEASE take note everyone Due to the 1st & 2nd December falling on a weekend (when most folk will be shopping and be wanting their money to spend) this year the date to declare Totals will be Thursday 29th November 2012. The opening date for the 2013 year being Friday 30th November 2012.

well have had a great day i found a lottery ticket on the floor in my bedroom not sure where it come from it wasnt there yesterday anyhow took it to work and got the lady to check id won Ј2.50 easily pleased just got in from work so put it straight in the pot and the Ј1 for today so just over Ј5 in my new pot will lose count shortly and i won Ј10 tesco voucher the day before.they say it comes in threes dont they may have to put lottery on for tomorrow fingers firmly crossed
well done everyone on your totals its wonderful how a bit of change soon adds up roll on 2012... am sooo excited already

OOOh the excitment yesterday whilst getting ready for the pot opening - had butterflies in my tummy. Mind you - I have become very protective of the contents - after all I have nurtured it all year. We have earmarked a couple of small amounts for different things but we haven't decided on the majority of it yet. Its just fantastic knowing its there

I really can't wait to see how much me and the OH can save and it will all go towards a fantastic Christmas next year
Well done to Sue & Sparky for all the hard work that you do and good luck to all SPC-ers - Please can I join this. I don't have an aim - my plan is to put all bus fares in the pot that we don't spend but has been budgeted for. I tend to draw money out of the atm for the week and sometimes have money left over that gets frittered away in town. Everytime we walk/cycle/have a day off bus fares go in the pot! We also buy the odd bottle of wine with the cash we have in a jar, so every friday we don't have a bottle of wine I'll put a few coins in my pot.
I tried last year to do a sealed pot but it got opened when we were strapped for cash for holiday money. I'm far more organised with my money this year and every eventuality has been covered - so I'm hoping to last the year and put the money towards my debts. - Hi Sue, Can I join this challenge please? I'm determined to sort my finances out! This will be the 3rd challenge I have joined for 2012.

Off to a good start as a friend of mine came over last night and bought some preserves I'd made (I make them all year) for gifts for her family - I don't normally sell them but she insisted on giving me some money so it all went in the tin
