A question about : Scottish Power

Everything is sorted online and by direct debit with paperless billing so I don't always look at my account with them but today I decided to take a look a rare look and noticed I am Ј900 in credit!!!! title=Bigtitle=Bigtitle=Big

Do I have a right to ask for it back or does it have to stay in their account. I cant believe they have never lowered my direct debit.

  • Scottish Power are a shambles at the moment, courtesy of a new computer system, and call centre staff who are slaves to 'The Computer'.
Don't forget that your monthly payments are credited every month, but bills only debited quarterly. So I could be Ј900 in credit today, and a winter quarter bill of, say, Ј700 be debited tomorrow and I would be Ј200 in credit - which would be about right for mid Feb.
However if your Ј900 credit is a true up to date reflection of the state of your account, then you are entitled to ask for some of it back.
    Good luck with SP though!
  • I will wait to see what the next bill is then. I think a large chunk of it will be a true reflection. From what I can see I have been in credit for the last 2 years for various amounts but since they put the direct debit up 9 months ago for no reason im saving a Ј150+ a quarter. Its saying I'm Ј900 in credit at present with another monthly DD of Ј126 before my next bill. since we've never had a bill in excess of Ј350 for winter im expecting the balance after to still be Ј800+.
I was on a very good 2year fixed deal with them that ended last September and up to then had never really had any issues. However in a complete rush I signed up to the lowest deal they could offer me on the last day of my previous deal without really shopping around. It seems comparing this years bill to last years bill is quite a bit more expensive.
My fault for taking my eye off the ball.
  • you'll be due a refund as long as the bills have not been estimated.
As you've confirmed you are on online billing and never log in it is highly likely they are estimated and until bills are corrected you'll never know. could be further in credit or even in debit.
