A question about : Samsung S5 mini eating data

Over the past few days my Samsung Galaxy S5 mini as been eating my data allowance. My 500mb data was refreshed on the 13th Feb and now its all gone. This morning at 3.30 am I got a text to say I had used 80% of my data since the 13th and by the time I woke up this morning I was out of data. I am not doing anything different on my phone than I have been doing since the contract started with EE.

I have checked where its going and it appears to be Google+ using 422 mb out of my 500mb allowance. The next highest user was Snapchat which I have uninstalled. I googled the problem on my laptop and it appears several people have had this happen to them and suggested going into the Google account and unchecking everything apart from emails and contacts. I have done this and purchased Ј1.99 of data for the day to see how it goes. Other than keep switching off my packet data until I need it has anyone any other suggestions please. I just dont know why Google+ has started giving me this problem. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  • Hi.
I use a Widget app APN on/Off, this enables me to turn the internet on or off, you can also get wifi on/off widgets too.
    Hope this helps
  • Who says its Google plus .

  • The op says its google+
  • Sounds like the phone is backing everything up, mine recently ate up loads of data and Google+ showed this in the data usage screen....sure enough I'd stupidly allowed backups over wifi and mobile networks....if you then do a few videos then the backups can be large.
Have a look and make sure it's only using Wifi for backups:

Over Wi-Fi or mobile network uploads photos when your device is connected to a Wi-Fi network or your mobile network. Note: Uploading over your mobile network will use your data connection, so charges from your service provider may apply. If you're on a Wi-Fi only device, Auto-Backup will only upload via Wi-Fi.
