A question about : RSA Home Insurance

RSA Home Insurance - Avoid !!!!

A renewal reminder was allegedly sent out in August, received last week for house and content renewal in October.
Om query as to why it was now only content only, they advised house insurance was cancelled in the summer.

On raising a complaint with their brokers, they claim to have given notice on cancellation but no reasons given.

So not only have we a house not insured for the past 4 months, new insurance cannot be taken out as they want to know
the reason for cancellation which RSA have yet to provide.

  • The Broker is Yorkshire Building Society who apparently have little involvement. Past renewals have been from RSA direct from somewhere in the midlands.
  • Things are even more mysterious - after a supposed detailed investigation:
    - YBS, 3 months after being informed of the tenants demise, sent a letter of change of name to the property owners on the insurance policy.
    - On the same date as the letter above (in June 2014), RSA claim to have sent a letter, which was never received and they cannot offer evidence of postage, cancelling building insurance but retaining the contents section. The letter goes on to state the owners must obtain their building insurance elsewhere.
    RSA more recently sent a post dated letter advising they have not received the October renewal so the building contents are now uninsured ! Oh Yes they are, but not with RSA
    - The RSA simply cannot be trusted -
  • It appears RSA are waiting/hanging out the full eight weeks (from date of original complaint) before making a final decision as requested.

    RSA Home Insurance - Absolutely and Definitely Avoid !!!!
    The case has now gone to the Ombudsman:
    - RAS still claim change of tenancy / use is change of building ownership.
    - the grounds for cancelling the house Insurance was the person paying the policy, also keyholder and caretaker 'had no insurable interest in the property'. This is untrue - they have around a 15% stake in it.
    However the complainant has pointed out that RAS should not be involved in such legal technicalities in house insurance.
  • I agree with RSA. A 15% ownership isn't a full insurable interest. They can insure 15% and nothing more. ANything more is betterment.
