A question about : Returning an ebay bought item , proof of delivery?

Hi All.

I recently bought an electronic item from a private seller on ebay.
Item arrives with a suspected intermittent fault, I inform the seller and get an electronic engineer to check over the item , engineer confirms a fault , repair costs are an unknown without attempting the repair so return and refund seems the best course.

I informed the buyer and though they completely disputed the fault plus the engineers diagnosis they did agree to arrange a return followed by a refund via paypal.

no big problem , however my question is , I understand to return an item and stay within ebay policy I need to obtain electronic proof of delivery , and so as in this case if the seller arranges the return courier I will not be in possession of any proof of delivery should there be a question of receipt which I need to prove to Ebay resolution .

any advice gratefully received.
Thanks in advance

Best answers:

  • Are you the buyer or seller as you say you bought the item, then you informed the buyer about the fault??
  • If you raise the dispute through ebay, follow their instructions, you will have 'ownership' of tracking, and ebay will have the record of your return. If the seller arranges return, you will have no proof that you have returned the item if the seller denies receiving it back.
