A question about : Remember you're a womble 2015

Hi All
I don't seem to see a good wombling thread on the debt free wannabee boards at the moment so I thought I'd start my own. I'm guessing most people know that wombling refers to making use of things you find for financial gain. Examples could be receipts that you have added onto your loyalty cards for your own gain. Some I find are: unclaimed Nectar points, Tesco club cards points, Toys R Us gold card points, Costa card points, mcdonalds cups with the bean sticker still on (collect 6 for a free coffee) also price promise reciepts for tesco & brand match coupons for sainsburys which are better than roadkill as many are over a Ј1.

I am going to keep track from Jan 1st on the value I find in the main categories & may zero sum them from the relevant budgets.

My aim for 2015 is every time I leave my house to try & find one item that makes my life cheaper!

Love to hear from others doing similar.

Bob

  • Today's wombling efforts. Went for a walk after Xmas lunch. Found:
    1. A Ј20 toys r us receipt with unclaimed points on it.
    2. 4 mcdonalds cups with bean stickers intact. I now have enough in total for a free coffee tommorow & I haven't paid for a single one of the loyalty points. Litter bugs have their benefits I suppose.
Cost benefit Ј1.39 for Mcdonalds coffee
2 points for Toys R Us card.
  • I never find anything Bob, even when I go out with my rubber gloves and bin bag to pick up the rubbish dropped outside on the grass verge by passing idiots We live on a small through road between the town and all its takeaway delights, and a housing estate where most of their customers seem to live, so I go out there at least once a week. It is always just rubbish, though the odd beer can or bottle goes into the recycling
I will subscribe to your thread though, as I love hearing about your finds
  • Good for you doing that Dawn. Keep your eyes peeled though.you never know!
  • we wish you a wombling merry christmas -)
  • Thanks Woodbine & to you
  • Merry Christmas Bob
I love to womble I will keep a eye on you thread for hand tips xxx
  • Thanks little pink purse
    Today's efforts.
    1. I took wombled nectar reciepts totalling 176 points to be added on. This gave me Ј4.12 on my card for free so far.
    2. I gathered shopping worth Ј12.17 which included a 3kg gammon ham then used a Ј1.50 off Ј10 shop coupon, 3 brand match coupons totalling Ј3.11 & one Ј2.50 nectar instant rewards off my above mentioned points. This took my shopping from Ј12.17 to Ј5.06. All coupons found locally.
    3. I collected a large black coffee for free from Mcdonalds which would have been Ј1.69 all reward points collected from cups lying around.
    4. I found a tesco reciept with 2 unclaimed points
    5. I found a double nectar points on your next shop voucher
    6. A toys r us receipt for Ј41.95 so 41 points to add on.
    7. And 1p roadkill.
Because I would have spent the shopping money (Ј7.11) & the coffee money (Ј1.69) I will make a payment to my credit card totalling these spends.

  • Hi like this idea!
Do you take 'unclaimed points' receipts to the shop and say you didn't have your loyalty card with you? Or something else? How do you know they are unclaimed?
    Any other ideas?
    Thank you
  • Sourcrates I'm a country girl too. I have eaten most things at some point. I like pheasant, more than venison for example which I find very funny smelling. I agree with you I'd shy away from picking up anything that I hadn't seen killed.
  • I'm just joining in with the DFW forum as of today, been lurking for a while.
I love a bit of Wombling so I'll definitely follow your thread!
Can I just ask what "GC" is in your signature?
    Thanks!
  • Hi Fatavril
Sure GC is Grocery Challenge. It's a really good challenge to join in with & can be found in the Old Style section of the board. You set a target for the month and then report your actual spends up to the end of the challenge. Lots of great ideas on there for using up leftovers, a huge index of recipes, & supportive people helping each other keep on track.
    Hope you find it ok.

  • Hi All
Today I went to sains & added on 52 found points which is worth Ј0.26 at present total points now worth Ј1.98 when I get to Ј10 I will move another Ј10 to pay off my credit card & use the points to pay for my shopping instead.
Cold day out & where it's been wet there wasn't any new reciepts today they've probably all been shredded by the elements.

  • Slim pickings today. May be the fact London is the emptiest I've seen it ever (well since last Christmas anyway) or the fact the retail park doesn't start trading till 11 & that was roughly when our walk took us by there. Anyway today's wins
    1. 1p
    2. 1 mcdonalds cup with bean still attached.
    3. One Tesco reciept with 23 points to claim.
    4. One double nectar points coupon.
Someone asked what else you can womble & I forgot to mention finding things you can sell on ebay. My best example of this was in the summer some students were moving out of a house near to us. Instead of moving all their stuff with them they had a street clothes give away. There was loads there and they were asking people to help get rid of it. Not selling it. I picked up a pair of size 5 converse. Too small for me but I sold them for Ј15 on ebay so an excellent street find. I suppose that would be a tip I'd give, just because you don't want it, could you sell it easily?

  • Now I understand the receipt thing, I was looking around like a crazy person when i was out ...but didn't find anything...yet. Will keep it up though. I'm saving Tesco points for a Eurotunnel crossing for this summer's hols, and if I could add to that I would be over the moon. Especially as I don't shop at Ts too often.
Did find 2p though so it got added to my change jar.
I save Boots and Waterstones points so will look out for those too.
  • Good luck that's a good goal to have on your trip. I wonder if there are other ways you could get your trip cheaper? Booking it via a cash back site, cash back credit card etc?
