A question about : Reclaiming bank charges

I have sent a letter with the help of this sites template, I am trying to reclaim Ј2650 which I have been charged over the past 6 years. I have just today received a call from Barclays saying that due to the courts ruling in Banks favour they would not be able to refund the Ј2650 but would as a good will gesture refund the bank charges that I have had over the past year which is Ј80.00 should I take this further? has any one had any luck with claiming money from Barclays?

Best answers:

  • Thanks I didnt use any unfair or unjust in the wording of the letter See the afollowingI am writing to request that you repay all the charges in relation to direct debits, unauthorised overdrafts and standing orders that have been applied to my account in the past six years.
I believe the fact that I have been incurring bank charges goes contrary to the aims of the Lending Code (Section 9) and Banking Conduct of Business Sourcebook (section 5.1.4 'in particular, a firm should deal fairly with a banking customer whom it has reason to believe is in financial difficulty'). My personal situation has been affected by the charges leaving me in financial hardship and I am writing to request that you take the following grounds into consideration:
  • Barclays have looked at your current situation and refunded recent fees. This is a fair way of approaching the situation.
